Hey Joe, what d'ya know!
Well some people say you get what you wish for, well, this morning I did. Was speaking to my mate Joe yesterday telling him how I was gonna catch some awesome fish today and ended saying I would be happy with 2 50cm Flatties. Came pretty close, 1 50cm and 1 47cms, here's the pic.

got em at Deep water bend out of my yak
on berkley gulps, 3" minnows in pumpkinseed.

Re: Hey Joe, what d'ya know!
Scotty, the new rig is like a dream m8, bloody awesome, couldnt recommend it more. I took two rigs with me this time and trolled both at once for a while, next to the okuma on a cheap rod they are just world apart, the cheap rod weighs about twice as much and just doesnt have the perfectly weighted taper of the Pflueger, it whips around heavily and just doesnt feel right when casting. The Pflueger I could easily cast all day, just beaut. Got the bigger fish on the cheap rod while trolling, he did a bit more fighting as the line was caught around his head somehow. Both were a bit of fun when I got em in the yak, I was shaking with excitement, like a little kid lol. It's like learning to fish again, stressing about whether the fish will just go straight back over the side. the first fish busted the line right after I plonked him between my legs and I had to stomp him hard with both feet to keep him still. getting goose bumps thinking about it. Fishing SPs requires a whole different kind of patience and perception of fishing. When fishing live bait, you throw out your line(s) and kick back and have a drink or enjoy the scenery waiting for that big hit, but with SPs you have to constantly be aware of where you have cast, what structure you are trying to work, which way your lure will go with current, how it's swimming/sinking, is the weight right? colour? so many variables, I'm hooked. Can't wait to try fishing like this in fresh water. mmm, big bass. Dribbling on, any magazines out there need a columnist?![]()

closer to low it got the browner it got, but where I was fishing it seemed to stay fairly clean, the fresh was staying in the main channel.

Re: Hey Joe, what d'ya know!
sounds good m8, I am very keen to get into some fresh water with the yak, after seeing some bull sharks doing aerobatics at deep water I am a little nervous at highish tides, although saying that I crossed the channel at deep water a few times today. By the time you get your canoe up here I should have some good scouting done.![]()
