    Bream size limits QLD

Hi guys I was was just wondering on other peoples opinions on the legal size limit for bream in Queensland. Personally is think 23cm is a joke, it should be altest 25 or more because i beleive if every released the fish at this size there will be more larger fish to catch in the future years.
    what do you think?

    cheers

I agree with 25cm at least there is not much on a 23cm bream I will not keep them until 25cm any smaller and they go back

I also think the limit should me much higher - 26cm at least. They are such a slow growing fish and should rate a higher minimum size. As Falcon01 says you don't get much of a feed from a 23cm fish.

I agree with all of you guys. At least 25cm, maybe even 27cm. Just checking some info and it is suggested that bream mature around 24 cmLCF, which is about 27 cm. Also, and interesting note is that females decrease in fecundity as they age, so it is actually good for the population to take big bream.

Ditto guys, I have never kept a Bream at 23cms. 25cms should be the mark i reckon. even then they only give you a small fillet.

    Cheers

Yeah - I reckon that a 23cm bream is pretty tiny also. I am in favour of a bigger minimum size limit.

I agree 25cm would be a better size limit.

I second your entire proposal 25cm minimum.
Because it's too cruel to kill 23cm for tiny fillet!!!

    Re: Bream size limits QLD

    I agree 27cm for me
27cm is about the smallest bream i will keep
They should get rid of the 23cm legal size limit
    its just to small

    G'day
Sounds good and all and yes i'll support a 25 or 27cm minimum legal on bream. How about whiting? I'd support a 25 on them aswell. Next question.... what can we do about it to @ least bring it to attention and possibly make some changes?

    Re: Bream size limits QLD

Hmmm, Let me guess what is best for the good old recreational fisherman.

    a. An in depth study supported by scientific data that includes growth rates of fish and age and size of spawning for both male and female fish that can be debated by knolwedgable people who can have a strong input?

    or

    b. An idea thrown up on a chat board that has no data but a gut feeling that somewhere it might be correct?

Let me think about this for a split second.

One simple question before another 1000 come to mind.

Is there any difference in the growth rates of the male or female of the species and what would an increase in size limit mean for population balance? (or for that matter is data collected in for example Botany Bay going to be accurate for Caloundra) etc etc etc.

2cm guys. How much more fish are you going to get out of that?

Remember when snappa use to be 30cm? They put it up buy 5cm and now they look too small.

Unless the freezer is bare - the small one's go back.

You're flat out getting a feed on a 30cm Bream. Minimum legal length at 27/28 would surely help though.
