    nerang river breamin

    hello ausfishers

i've been thinking about getting my boat on the nerang to chase some bream around but have little idea where to start. i would be using soft plastics and small hardbodies.

im guessing the canals are going to have a lot of bream but wasnt sure if some are much better than others. or do you just pick one and go from there.

any tips as to where they are would be great

    thanks heaps

Just take your pick and go from there !

some are good one day , rubbish the next.

Everyone has thier fave canals at different tide and times.
Have a go and see what you find out.

Don't forget things like beacons and the reefy bit in front of TSS.
I still can't get a fish there myself but some do well.

The secret is to actuall fish, that is have a lure in the water.

Most of the rabbits I see on the river spend the morning tearing aroud flat out screwing it up for those anchored on a spot.

Its more like a fashion parade or a boat show than fishing for most of em

The whole system holds good fish. I prefer bridge pylons, but you can also look for deep holes and banks that drop off steeply. Any rocky walls are OK.
Look for eddys in the current, the fish sit where the flow is less strong.

The canals behind pac fair around sunshine bvd and rio vista bvd are all good. So is the main river.

    Hi Greg,

I do loads of fishing in the canals around the Coast.

As the others have said dont get too hung up about any one particular spot just try around most bridges, pontoons or anything with structure. Keep an eye out for banks with large mangrove trees overhanging the water these can be good as well.

I would also have to agree that its hot and cold in the canals, one day a place will fire and then the next day it will be a battle to get anything out of there.
Give any one area 15-20 mins, if nothing then move to another place. I have found it common to move around the corner to a different bridge and the fish can be 'on' and it may only be a short distance away. Wierd really, but thats fishing for ya.

Also, most people you see will be novices or tourists i find so dont go thinking these people know what they are up to. Go with your own instincts and fish where you think it right, check out some of the less popular bridges and odd spots, you will be suprised at what you get.

For 'free' online maps of the Gold Coast Canals go to Whereis.com awsome free map site and it will help you to plan your trips. #

I have found my best catches always have been to start fishing about one hour before sunset then an hour or two into the darkness. Tides you'll have to experiment, i have had all kinds of different results.

I like to use Bread mixed with Parmesan cheese, sardines, aniseed essence and stimulte to catch the Bream and it is very effective.

    Good luck mate!!
