hooking up on SPs

After some tips on to how to "hook up" on SPs, I keep getting some really good runs, but keep missing the hook up. HELP

i've had a bit of trouble with pulled hooks on squire lately. i think if your fishing light you often don't have enough "punch" to get the hook in solidly. Another thing i have noticed is that with chemically sharpened hooks i get alot of hookups that are not necessarily in the jaw i.e. in the fishes tongue etc. My opinion is that these non-bony areas in the mouth give a less secure hookup as the tissue can tear after a long fight. I have been experimenting with finer gauge hooks which are easier to get in and also hooks with a wider gape to try and get more hookups in the jaw. Some use stinger hooks but i would worry about "dampening" the action of the jig. Not sure what the answer is Sometimes you just get a run of bad luck

You might find the hook os too short for the plastic. The fish might be grabbing the plastic in their mouths just behind the hook and swimming off with it. Then when it loads up, they just let it go.

I was getting this problem with the 4" Turtlebacks. I cut about 1-2" off the front of it so the hook came out right at the start of the tail, and started getting hookups. You can cut plastics to suit


So yeah... I'd check your hook size.

What's your drag like? I find that if my drag is to light they seem to
spit the hook more often.

This might sound rediculous, but is your hook sharp??

If my hook does not leave a scratch on my finger nail, or dig into my skin with the lightest pressure, it gets a touch up with a small stone. #Other than that, yeah, too small a hook I agree fishindan!
