Considering garmin 172c, what are my combo options

I currently own a Lowrance X125 sounder and was thinking of mating it with a Garmin 172c chartplotter. But now i have been thinking about my other options. Options of going for a combo unit (GPS/sounder).

Do you think having the two individual units is better than having one combo unit ? I guess having two screens gives you more viewability for each unit. What are some combo units worth considering in the $1000-$2000 range ?

Is the X125 gonna be suitable for all my close reef needs ? I have only used it in my old boat for in the estuaries.

If you're considering a combo have a look at the Lowrance LMS332c. I have one in my tinnie and couldn't be happier. Fantastic graphic resolution (480x480), brilliant colour even in daylight, easy to use, adjustable split screen etc. etc......have a look at www.lowrance.com and download the simulator to have a play!

Get the 172c and have a look at the small furuno sounders as you'll spend about $1800 and get a very useable set-up! I'm not a fan of combo units there complicated to use and ajust compared to dedicated units also if one goes down you still have the other. Just my opinion!

If you have the room and the budget, get two seperate units.
I have a Garmin GPSMAP 178C and whilst I'm very happy with it, you do lose a bit with one unit.
I just didn't have the room for two, so I'm not disappointed as such. I was aware of what I'd be missing out on.
The screen really isn't big enough to run in split mode, so you'll find you end up in either GPS screen or Sounder screen.
You can compensate slightly by adding displays for stuff you want to the screen, but it all cuts down your useable area.

Go for the 172c and steer clear of combos. I have a 172c and love it.

I have the Map172C also and it's great. No combos for me. I have a Matrix 12 up the front on the electric motor when I'm fishing alone but this is secondary and I use the GPS output from the Garmin to drive it. On the first trial I was reminded of combo limitations but for my application it's OK.

Also get the USB card reader, blank card and the software as it makes waypoint editing and archiving easy.

I went Garmin 276C [use it in the car as well with 'city navigator] and a furuno colour sounder. Perfect.
