UHF antenna on bull bar

Would I get the same reception if put a grounded antenna as oppose to a ground independent antenna on the bull bar ??? The bull bar is made of metal but not stainless.

Depending on the amount of gain of the antenna. but both antennas can still use the metal as a reflector (groundplane).

Just relocated my uhf aerial to the head board bar. Had it on the bull bar for years and had good reception BUT much better reception on the head board bar.
