    Hi Rando,

Will you have a vehicle mate? - Palm Cove jetty is probably the most notable land based spot if you have a car. If not - just off the eastern end of the pier goes alright at certain times (assuming you are based in town) - don't expect loads of fish - but every now and then someone lands a stonker (same for palm cove..) Another option if you have a car is second beach, or even heading north past Palm Cove and fishing the headlands on the road to Port Douglas (just check the green zone maps first). Bridge at Machans Beach over to Redden island also fishes well at the right time (plenty of barra caught there in season). If you want to travel further afield - Southern End of Four Mile beach goes alright at times i've heard - first light and pick your tide.

As for a charter - Blackout fishing charters with Kerry is about the only one to recommend nowadays (a more personal trip on a 6 metre centre console) - since Toddy sold the Aquacat (used to be the go to trip) - but haven't heard many stories about the quality of Aquacat/Bluewhaler charters under new ownership - and as for the ones i have heard - they aren't worth repeating. See Kerry is my mail......

    Thanks Moffy
Yes I will have a car, so those travel spots will be worth a try. Ive never caught a barra so that would be one to add to the list. i probably wont go north again for a couple of months. The boss is worried about ability to travel during wet season.
    thanks again for the tips

Plenty of beaches but I think best beach is South end of hollaways/north end of machans beach is a small creek, Get yourself a cast net if you can store it, a local will teach you in just a few casts how to use, go up into the creek and get livies, I only go at night because for some reason regardless of tide mullet are always near mouth. Fish the incoming but you will need to get bait well early if a big tide, no crocs big enough to eat you, if your worried just scan for pink eyes with a torch. If under 10 knots and its barra season do not cast further that a few metres from rocks at machans and 10 metres of the beach if on the sand at holloways. DO not fish in creek as unlikely to catch anything, fish 100 metres at leat away from mouth into ocean. Fish only the 4 days before to to 3 days after the full/new.We have landed alot of Barra this way (5 over 1 metre last year.) We also throw one line out along way as well when the threadies are runnng. Also next to the stinger net at night kicks ass to. Use good size mullet, not to big say 5 inch would be ace pegged with a 7 o (ish), gamagatsu light hook so livies stay smick. You can also fish small mullet on a 3o for grunter and flatties if you only get little tackers. Can fish light as have a whole ocean to play them but 60 pound leader is a must. Alternatively go soft plastics and hit the inlet anywhere near rocks, near casino is ok. Do not cast more than a few metres from structure and stay close to rocks. I have spent 100s of hours jetty dwelling in cairns and it is fair dinkim poor. Pm if want more nfo. cheers big ears..Ps I have also caught many barra on handlines if you need to fly light a 80 pound using a really really small sinker works well, but you must have livies.Good luck

well there is a secret spot in white rock into the boat ramps, u can normally access by boat, great catch of GT just as high tide comes (crocs sometime sun bath there)
there an access point on kate street into the rail way train, follow it down and u can fish for alot of jacks and beams under the bridge (keep an eye open, crocs do come and idle about, harmless, i see alot of ppl there too; or can also move up the tracks for another nice spot

Machans Beach is great if the ocean is blue on the left side of the beach, u'll find alot crazy netters , otherwise the mouth of it.. u need to be able to cast about 40-80m to get the good one or your bait just be wasted by whiting

pine creek road at the boat ramp, alot of whiting, lure cast for reds when it start high tide

    Thanks heaps
Flying in with a net might blow the weight allowance😃No problems with throwing one though.
Seriously worried about the swimming handbags though. When youve had no exposure, the problem is that you do not know when you are making a mistake.

I will give those spots a try
    Thanks again
