I've done a bit of surface fishing for GT's up here. My favourites are Carpenter stickbaits, but they cost a fortune IF you can find them.
Seriously, the R2S Rover stickbaits and Halco Haymaker poppers work fine. This would be for minimum 50lb braid though. I havent been to Fiji but 3-5kg sounds light for throwing poppers around reef.
The only people who say you need a $100 popper are those who can afford them....
thanks scuttlebutt i should have clarified better i will be using 3-5kg gear walking the shore and mouth of a inlet 15kg and 24kg of the boats im hiring and i dont want to spend $100 on a lure. i think thats way over priced. should i change the trebles on the haymakers to single hooks what have you found works best and ill look up the carpenter stickbates

Mate everyone's got an opinion on the singles vs trebles debate. I've tried both and just stick with trebles. I haven't noticed any overall advantage to singles.
check out reefmaster lures, they are quality and a good price. Old mate cleans up on the GT's with them

Why get two if they're too rich for ya?
Buy a heavy broom handle and make some up the fish are stupid and just strike on reaction most of the time so they dont need to be fancy.
yeah the gammas are great. Handmade in Japan. Unfortunately they're asking stupid money for them these days (although the one you've pictured as abalone shell inlays). About 6 years ago I was getting them from Japan at under $50 each. It's only a small company and a lot of wealthy guys have taken up GT fishing in the last few years. Subsequently demand for "boutique" Japanese gear has pushed prices to rediculous levels. My opinion only.
I under stand that as the cost to chase the elite fish is high due to low percentage of fisherman and women that chase them

The best general purpose GT popper IMHO is the Cubera 125. The Haymakers are good too. I like single hooks. The hookup rate is debatable but for me, singles are safer for the fish and crew. I also remove the barbs. I've fished many many days side by side with guys running trebles and/or barbs, and there's no difference.
