Redland Bay Flash new pontoon but....
... they need the council to police the 20 minute time limit imposed and make it a moron free zone. Took the kids out today for the pupil free day to put some pots in. Left at 9am to set the pots. There was a small yacht tied up on the long side of the pontoon and a tinny either end. This left a fair bit of room still on the long side. Anyway kids held the boat while I parked the car then off we went. Came back around 1030am to find same boats still tied up. Oh well plenty of room so got the kids to hold the boat while I reversed down then drove on and away we went home. Back to the ramp at 1pm and low and behold same boats still tied up with no people around so I launch again get the kids to hold the boat and go and check pots. (only 4 sandies) Returned around 2pm to find same 3 boats still there but another has tied up in the middle of the only available section left. This left not quite enough room either end of him for me to pull in. He still had his mrs and kid on the boat and was walking up the ramp so I asked if he was coming or going and he grunted something about going to get his trailer. OK I thought thats cool I'll just wait as he didnt seem to want to move his boat for me anyway. 25 F&^%$$ng minutes later still no sign of him and his Mrs just ignored my questions of where was the trailer parked. Starting to get a bit hot under the collar now as she could have easily shuffled the boat either way and I could have pulled in and got my kids to hold the boat. But no. Way too arrogant for that. Then before old mate gets back with his trailer one of the tinny owners gets back and starts to load all of his supplies into the boat and chirpilly says"I'm, leaving now you can pull in here"Oh his 20 minutes must have expired I thought but happily took his place. Just as I jumped into my car old mate with the other boat who was too rude to move it returns and reverses his trailer down at the same time as me. I load my boat and drive to the rigging area and he just pulls up on the ramp and proceeds to tie his boat up and block a lane of the ramp this time. No consideration for anyone but himself.
Drove home angry which really sucks! Council will be called tomorrow.
Rant overCheers

It's going to be the same old story Macca. When the old pontoon was there how many times was there a big bay cruiser tied up there for the day?
It is a flash new bit of gear though.....

Re: Redland Bay Flash new pontoon but....
I think could have saved half the money with only half the amount of walkway and a lot of wasted space on the pontoon itself

Re: Redland Bay Flash new pontoon but....
Hi
At least all you had to battle was a couple of tinnies and another boat. At Beachmere you have to dodge the fishing lines, crab pots and boats, and if you're real lucky to be able to pull up you then have to walk through the deck chairs and eskies.
Moral to this is we don't even bother using the pontoon- we use the other boat ramp and just tramp through the mud.

Re: Redland Bay Flash new pontoon but....
The unlawful use of floating pontoons & walkways should be policed more often? They are there for the soul purpose of launching & retrieving vessels and not peoples own private pontoons & walkways to moor or fish from like some F....HEADS seem to take upon themselves to show total disregard for what there intended purpose is for and other boaties. I see it all the time at various boat ramps over here in the northern suburbs. This problem will continue to grow if something is not done about it?

Re: Redland Bay Flash new pontoon but....
Saw a guy tie up at deep water bend then proceeded to park his car and service all the rollers etc on the trailer. When he finished load boat back on and left. Took longer than 20mins

Re: Redland Bay Flash new pontoon but....
Surely it is about time we all boat owners make some real complaints about these matters to the right departments of councils or government. We are the ones paying the fees and registrations. I own a 6.3 meter fibreglass boat for which I attenpt at all times to care for. I am a menber of the MBTBC and for 1 main reason that I have a pontoon to launch and retrieve from with my wife and family not getting wet and not damaging my boat. Went for a drive on the weekend along the bay suburbs but particually to see if the new pontoon at redland bay was open yet as I want to use this location. Yes the parking is also another sh.....t fight when we got to wellington point there were more cars in the SIGN POSTED boat trailer parking than there was trailers p...sses me off. Then people sitting on their folding chairs fishing from the boat ramp. This is why floating pontoons in the middle of ramps work much better. Mybe someone on here who knowns better than I could draft up a complaint letter we could all sign or use and send or email it to the correct authorties everytime we notice these going ons. I believe all written complaits must be looked into and answered in writing.
Would it be illegal in any way if you double parked on a public pontoon where boats are left then traverst across their boat to the pontoon to go and get you trailer.

Re: Redland Bay Flash new pontoon but....
We had MV Toorbul tie up at the Scarbie pontoon for 3 weeks , sticking out into the channel with a huge sarca anchor pointing out the front to trap the unwary as they tried to angle past it into the jetty - WTF
