    Re: My first boat!

Love the setup mate. Really user friendly, lots of space always make a huge difference.

You say that you're tell-tale is working with the earmuffs on, have you tried a new set of ear muffs? My motor stopped pumping water with the ear muffs on one day and I went into panic mode big-time! Shut her down, did as you did, checked for blockages and was about to replace impeller and water pump but first tried running the engine in a huge tub. Turns out it was just the ear muffs that weren't getting the water in properly through the intake and it runs like a charm.
If you can find one of those big black plastic barrels and cut it off at about a meter in height then fill it with water and tilt your engine into it you will be able to check.

No, the tell-tale isn't working at all... with ear muffs on, and the guy I bought it from said that it had stopped working mid-trip, so he had to turn around and get back home before he cooked the engine. A few people have told me to go back it into the water at the ramp and give it a go, or as you said put it in a big barrel of water.. Looks like I'm off to dads place across the road to borrow his ear muffs and grab a half 44 drum!! Thanks for the advice

Wow, you're quite game purchasing a boat that has a motor in which it stopped pumping water and the previous owner didn't get it fixed... I definitely WOULDN'T start the motor. I'd take it straight to a marine mechanic and have it checked over and serviced. Otherwise you're risking 4k of motor.

Good photos Jack, Fantastic amount of space in that setup. Hope you get the motor running soon.

    Enjoy!

The guy I bought it from is my partners step-dad He wouldn't have sold me a cooked motor, or I'll straight around there to show him the bill (he sold it to me as nothing wrong except the impeller and said that the engine wasn't damaged). Even so, I think the boat is probably worth 4-5k and I only paid 3k so I suppose I can afford to spend $1000-$2000 and still come out with a good boat at a good price

Yep, as soon as he said he wanted to get rid of it I asked him whether he would do a better price for me and he gladly dropped 2k from what he was asking.
