New Suzuki DF140a Lean Burn
Just got a call from the dealer saying boat is ready just needs a water test! Wooohoo!
After having been without it for a couple of weeks I was starting to get withdrawals.
Just thought I’d start this thread so I can capture some performance data and share it with others.
Be interesting to see how it compares to the Honda BF90a I had on there before – I’m hoping for a much higher cruising speed while hopefully improving the fuel economy.. we’ll see.

Be keen to see those figures I have posted mine (df140) in the boating chat section a number of times.

Garry,
I have concerns as well, but time will tell, about the longevity of the technology.

Re: New Suzuki DF140a Lean Burn
prob just like the honda lean burn technology im guessing?
oxygen sensor in the exhaust, just like cars have been doing for a couple of decades.
i guess time will tell - im not expecting the 14% reduction they claim it'll do, but i'll be happy if its gives me better fuel economy than my honda i had on there..
the reason for the upgrade was because the honda was getting a bit old and the wifey didn't like reversing it off the trailer, carby model so it had a bit of 'character'.
ahh im hanging out to have a drive of it - damm this 'work' thing i have to do everyday.

Electronic lean burn, that's what chrysler cars had on their fender badges in 1976. The wisdom of getting older. Cheers Winston.

Re: New Suzuki DF140a Lean Burn
Looks like a decent day tomorrow for some testing. It should be a nice engine regardless, lots of very happy DF140 owners out there and Honda owners of course.
We shouldn't snub improvements in our engines too much, because I remember all too clearly using almost double the fuel for the same size engine same size boat 20 years ago, not to mention the fumes..they are almost getting a bit boring now they run so nicely.

Re: New Suzuki DF140a Lean Burn
Yes it is an oxygen sensor and yes it will have issues. It's probabaly the most likely sensor to fail.
They don't like water of any kind. feed them crap fuel and they will give you crap performance.
Honda had plenty of issues with the first ones (2001 V6) so it's not really new technollogy, I am guessing other manufacturers have learned a lot from Honda's persistance with them.
They are the reason Honda's have the lowest emissions
The 140 should be good with it.

Re: New Suzuki DF140a Lean Burn
Yes I know all about O2 sensors, used to work in the automotive service industry..
Having said that, I assume the Suzuki ECU will just go into an open loop fuel/ign map instead of closed loop if there is a fault with the O2 sensor? Is that what Honda’s do?
So at worst should be the same as a the previous DF140?
Dunno, this is all new territory for me, time will tell – hopefully I don’t need to make use of the 5 year warranty very often.
Cormorant, sshhhh! The missus might see this!
Anyway just went and checked it out in the flesh, looks great, I prefer the new cowl design.

Re: New Suzuki DF140a Lean Burn
Ah yeah the good old lean burn - mate had a CL Valiant with the mighty 265 "electronic lean burn"
Gotta love marketing speak - having said that I'm sure it will be a sweet engine
