Bloody hell. I wonder if it hit his femoral artery. Either way, I hope he's alright.

Who said fishing wasn't dangerous

A fisherman who was injured by a swordfish has been rescued off the Gold Coast.
The man's leg was pierced by the fish's bill last night and rescuers say he has been losing blood ever since.
The 20-year-old was on a boat 190 nautical miles off the Gold Coast seaway.
Due to the fuel capacity of the rescue helicopter, authorities had to wait for the boat to come within the 100-nautical-mile mark at first light this morning.
He was winched off the boat and has been flown to the Gold Coast where he will be treated by paramedics.
Bloody hell. I wonder if it hit his femoral artery. Either way, I hope he's alright.

I think if it hit an artery he would be dead by now.
200 miles doesn't seem like a large operating range for the rescue chopper.... I would have expected more range than that.
But then again, I know very little about choppers.
Our 'little' local rescue choppers are running out of breath by then.
The longer range BK's and Pumas are all up North where they need to run bigger miles.
Hope he's alright.
Are we to believe a news chopper headed out 100 miles to film a winch job or was that file footage?

Terrifying. Hundred kilo or so of swordie piercing your leg doesn't sound good at all. Hope they had some high-quality painkillers and antibiotics on board.
Thankfully sounds like he wasn't fully impaled......do the bills on those fish have "barbs"?
