Re: battle for wello pt lost, the WAR continues...
I think the other issue at hand here is:
We share 11 bays now - how many will we be expected to share in 12 months time. In my view this current move by Council creates a potentially dangerous precedent. In addition, if they don't enforce illegal parking in the 11 bays, does that mean that at some time in the future they won't enforce illegal parking in the remaining bays??

Re: battle for wello pt lost, the WAR continues...
I was just thinking exactly that. Especially if you are heading out for the whole day. I will certainly be doing that when I can. In reality though I don't think the council are going to police parking anymore now than they ever had which is a pitiful attempt at best. The majority of arguements, issues I have had done there have been at about 1pm but apparently we don't go fishing in the afternoon as it is too windy!!!!! Did you read that mayor and councillers?

Re: battle for wello pt lost, the WAR continues...
I see in your copy of the minutes Dave that there was a representative of kite surfers at the meeting. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a dirty big sign as you enter the reserve saying that kite surfing is banned??? Why then would they invite and advertise that theyhave a rep there. Obviously this isn't policed either. Legally I really don't know if they can enforce this unless they were putting people in danger and then it would be a police matter. I don't get it Redlands Council?

Re: battle for wello pt lost, the WAR continues...
i have looked at that. it seems old mate mr windsurfer has been campaigning for this "shared parking" arrangement since 2007. he has been recording wind readings etc etc and producing all his data for council proving conclusively that it is always too windy in the afternoon for small boats... totally ideal conditions for him tho, so can he please have a trailer park? and as far as his representing kite/wind surfers goes, there was no mention of any club names or the likes so i dont think he has much of a support base.
in regard to kite surfers specifically, i thought they were banned too. seems council will favour anyones rights over those of legal, rate and rego paying boaties.
i am sure that will be edited to remove the word kite and would prove to be a slip of the tongue. i think there were a few. i may need to acquire a recording of the meeting. i was amazed that some of the councillors voting on this didn't even appear to know the layout of the point. 1 even thought the trailer bays were drive in drive out. yet these same people overrule their experts

Re: battle for wello pt lost, the WAR continues...
I was on the other side of the fence today.. Went there at 1ish today with three family's in three cars and noticed parking inspector issuing tickets to cars in trailer spots and two police officers monitoring. Could only get one car spot in about 15mins of doing laps so had to leave and find refuge at raby bay beach for the BBQ. Only a handful of boat trailers there as a bit windy and plenty of empty trailer spots calling the masses in their cars in and can see the temptation for the people that have no idea about trailer parking requirements. Will have to watch that they don't close the northern ramp so they can claim that no extra trailer spots required and can turn some spots into cars only. They need to create more trailer AND car parks or limit the amount of vehicles that can enter with boom gates or something at the top of the hill on a 1 in 1 out basis which won't go down well with anyone..

Re: battle for wello pt lost, the WAR continues...
i have considered this. i dont believe any boatie would begrudge these people parking there on windy days. BUT it is up to council to provide a traffic controller so that there are a reasonable number of bays left available for trailers. this is something which was suggested at the community meeting in the first place. you cant go and build coney island and not have some sort of control over the traffic that you attract. as council seem unwilling to go down this road we are left with limited options. we know that people who park illegally on windy days will do the same on fair weather days. therefore, in the absence of traffic control we have to request total law conformity. i would much prefer to see a traffic warden employed there on weekends than parking police but that is not as yet on the table. so until then i will continue to report illegal parking to council even on windy days. i received a call back from them today. apparently another 50 fines doled out. and another new protester today who read the flyer under his wiper yesterday.

there is no advantage to them closing the northern ramp. there is supposed to be 90 bays for the southern. at 75 and soon to be 64 we will still be below msq recommendations.

In theory maybe shared windsurfer & kitesurfer/boat trailer parks could work?? That would be fun to police. Maybe windsurfers/kitesurfers could pay an annual rego fee to council the same as we pay boat and trailer rego so that facilities can be provided for them?? In return they could get a sticker and display it on their windscreen. About $250 a year, like we pay for the priviledge. It is really the daytrippers that are using the trailer parks that need to be managed. How about it windsurfers??

Nice work backhoe.
Sounds fair mate, if they want to share, then they must also share the cost, however at $250.00 per yr, that works out to be roughly $4.80 a weekend and I think even the car only drivers would jump at that, it's a lot cheaper then the $50.00 fine each time they are caught out Illegally parking.

Re: battle for wello pt lost, the WAR continues...
ok fellas. i have had my meeting with pr expert. the angle we are going to attack this from is that council are anti boatie. we will attempt to keep the public on side. remember 1 in 6 households have a registered boat. we dont want the other 5 against us. this is a numbers game. my apologies to the redneck element but the way this is going down will be along the lines of a "meet and greet" or "swap meet" or "boating safety and orientation" type do. we will still aim to fill all the parking bays but we will do it in a "nice" way. we will keep pushing the theme that council is anti boatie and move the blame to where it belongs. i approached 3 "offenders" yesterday and none knew they were parking illegally, 1 was even parked directly in front of councils pathetic signage.
anyway, the pr man wants email addresses for those attending the bbq. so please either pm me, call me 0423148941 or email me at daveanderson_1@hotmail.com
57 to date. add your support. will be a great barby!

What i don't get is there are so many parks kids and adults can enjoy in the area why council have not got a sign at the popular places advertising the less known ones is beyond me. for fathers day the inlaws family and I all went to raby bay cause we know the trouble of wello point and there isnt just one place to go in raby bay there is 3 that i know of all all had places to park and BBQ's . if you check out the council website there is so many parks of all kinds and most are never full. website for reference http://www.redland.qld.gov.au/Recrea...ularParks.aspx
there is a pdf with park features and information on the council website
