soooo, what have you found in the briny?
i have found various items of flotsam and a bit of jetsom too
. fishing combos, anchors, cast nets, landing nets and crab pots of course. 1 funny i remember: a couple of years back i took old mate out for a prawning sesh down the bay. while scooting along i spotted something and went back, whilst wisely informing old mate as to the benefits attached to keeping a keen eye out on the water
. scooped up 1 ready-tied mud crab before wisely informing old mate to never scoop up anything organic that floats
. could not get the stench off the boat for what seemed like half an hour
. kind of happy i lost that landing net - if it weren't for the squid and cuttlefish in it at the time...
fishing's as simple as 3 P's - patience, perserverance and PLASTIC!

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
going back quite a few years now,,, but,,, i had number 2 son (ChopJr's dad) with me fishing under the Pine River Bridge,,, flicking out a dozen times and getting snagged 2 dozen times on his behalf,,, after getting tired of re-rigging his rod,,, and after he snagged up again,,, i could see that this time the snag was moving in as he wound,,, might be a crab me thinks,,, so he passed the rod over whilst he manned the net,,,, a few handful of winds on the crank,,, and up popped a "sawn off .22 rifle"
it was that clean,,, no rust,,, the barrel was spotless,, magazine had 5 rounds in it,,, AND no 2 son snared it via his 1/0 hook passing through a neat hole in the trigger guard????
we packed up,,, and took it to the cop shop,,,, (one of the worst decisions in my life),,,,,, we spent roughly 6 hours there filling out paperwork,,answering questions over and over,,,, then I had roughly 3-5 weeks of follow up paperwork/mail to go through??
never again,,,, i'll throw the next gun back in

Choppa you did the wrong thing. You said it was sawn off..... so it was undersized and you should off thrown it back. It's your own fault.![]()

Pulled this up at Mud also a few weeks back. That isn't the float is just growth on the rope, Rope must have been chopped by a prop as it was fully submerged by a few feet at low tide.

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
Just the usual - rock bars, gravel bars and my old favourite sand bars. One time I even found some old hardwood oyster lease timber - hardwood is right!
Ohh, but I didn't find them - my props did!![]()

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
Several combos I have found over the years in the shallows, only one with a fish attached though........mebbe one day I will progress past a Kmart special.
I used to dive Redcliffe a fair bit in winter and have picked up hundreds of squid jigs, knives, a few rods and tried recivering a very fresh shopping trolley once, bad move on scuba, very awkward to surface one of them without a rope from above.
My grandfather did snag up an outboard engine with the anchor, just out from the Dohles Rocks ramp one evening many years ago, that had not been in the water long. It had a gut full of water and a broken conrod and crank so I presume it came off a boat whilst underway.
Jack.

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
Wonder what the chances are of anything in the "what have you lost overboard" thread turning up in this one being found?

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
Very sadly Trace's older sister found a body in the Brissy River when out fishing one night.
Apparently a Gateway suicide.
Long time ago now probably 12 years or so.

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
A few years ago Brother & I found an upturned 1/2 cab floating just under the surface about 10ks off Tugun. A pretty serious hidden hazard IMO butt the authorities were not real interested about it when my brother contacted them. While examining the sunken boat a bloody octopus with about 1500 tentacle spread attached itself to the hull & up over the side deck of our boat. That thing was impossible to remove & so we just fished & motored around while it sunbaked on the deck. After about 1/2 an hour it just slipped back into the water.

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
a mate Brian sat his rod down against the gunnel one day with the bait just out of the water when a rat King jumped up and grabbed it flipping the rod and reel overboardtwo years later he found the custom built rod and old TLD 15 reel a few doors down the road out the back of the local dive shop. the whole rig was in perfect condition as the dive mob found it very soon after Brian losing it. still going strong today some 6 years on

Re: soooo, what have you found in the briny?
netmaker I once managed to find a fish in the briny.
To be truthful I haven't found too much, a couple of rod tips, the top halves that is, and not much else. I would like to find the rods I have lost as they had fish attached to them, maybe they've grown a bit since then. The only thing worth mentioning was that we had a muddy already tied up when we checked one of the pots, this was on the Robinson River up in the NT - does this count.
