Pajero companion shaft issue.
I've been reading alot about this issue since buying a 05 NP pajero last month and it is starting to scare the bejesus out of me.
Has any one had this issue with there Pajero and or had the shaft upgrades done?
I am going to my local Mitsi dealer when I get home from work to see if I can still get it done under warranty but I wont be holding my breath.
The vehicle came with a 10 year drive train warranty so at 7 years old and 93000kms I will see what they have to say.Cheers Axl

Re: Pajero companion shaft issue.
If its anything like the 380 D/train warranty i believe it is not transferable, only for the original owner. Do hope for you i am incorrect though.

Re: Pajero companion shaft issue.
Correct the extra 5 years is for the original owner only, being an 05 you should already have the upgraded ones, I cant remember the exact date they started fitting them from factory.
Unless your Companion Shafts are coming out DONT WORRY. If they do, Push them back in and go and get the upgraded companions shafts,
PM me if you want and i can help u out!! HINT HINT

Re: Pajero companion shaft issue.
axl your paj should be ok as its an 05 but if you contact your local mitsi dealer and ask the service manager about your car they will be able to tell you exactly. all they need is the vin and while they are at it you can find out all the warranty history.
technically the warranty is only for the original purchaser but i know for a fact they will consider it on a case by case basis. i bought my 2004 np with a noisey diff and weeping seal then asked the local dealer about it. he reported to mitsi australia who then came back and offered me the parts for free if i paid the labour (thru the local dealer)
they called it a goodwill warranty and it kept me happy so i guess it worked![]()
its also done 155kms and is 8 years old and im the 3rd owner but it does have a full mitsi service history.

Re: Pajero companion shaft issue.
Steeler,
never had to replace tensioners on them but Retail is about $480 for belt and labour
Swanie, From 2005 there was a fix from Factory in place. Yes there is goodwill but you have to have a problem first, The service history is the key, from what the original post was it does not say he has the problem only that he is worried. And no we catn see the whole warranty history on the car, Unless we had completed the work. TRUST me i am a Service manager with Mitsi.

Re: Pajero companion shaft issue.
Thanks again for the info Swanie1975 I saw your name on the Paj forum mate and read your posts great info as always mate.
Thanks for the info lethal098 October 05 I believe the fix was implimented as mine was made in May i suspect that it missed this. I am the second owner I have the full service history but it wasnt done buy Mitsi. As you have said I have not seen any issues as yet but from what I have read it can happen at any time to any Paj basically from 04 to 07.
PM sent mate.

Re: Pajero companion shaft issue.
I was told it mainly happens when towing a load, and the rear of the cars rises up on a bump, the rear axles droop down and out they pop.I got the upgraded bits anyway,Currumbin diffs did the job and I am happy with it.That's been the only problem with the Paj in just over 3 years.

Re: Pajero companion shaft issue.
After sending lethal098 a PM I now have the upgraded parts in my Pajero. Mine had not popped out (as can happen) I simply wanted to have them upgraded for piece of mind.
Anyone who is thinking they want to do this and or need to have this done drop Lee a PM and you will be pleasently surprised as I was ($300 cheaper than the next closest quote).
Thanks for your help Lee I will see you shortly for the timming belt replacment.

Pajeros are under rated honest trucks. I am looking forward to the all new ground up jobbie - any hints Lethal as to when that will arrive...
