Trim tab oil

Hi just wondering what oil is used for the trim tabs.I can get instatrim biodegradable oil from the USA but it works out to be $60 a pint. Surely there must be an alternative.

From a quick google for biodegradable hydraulic oil both Castrol and Fuchs produce such a product. An email to either might do. Tabs are low pressure hydraulic and operate cold, so mention that and they should be able to help you out.

Does anyone know if you ever have to oil Lenco Trim Tabs? (The shaft bit)

I just happento have aset of lencos sitting on the floor of the lounge room, finally saved the pennies to acquire a set, just waiting for weather to warm up to resin friendly temps before I fit them. Instructions say to rinse them off with soapy water to remove salt residue. A bit of WD40/INOX probably couldn't hurt.

I would have thought the same oil used in the hydraulic steering systems would be fine for your tabs, but power steering fluid as Steeler said should be good.
