Cape Cod Heavy Popper Rod
Hi all,
Just finished this little project which I've been working on for a few weeks now. It's a heavy duty Cape Cod popper rod designed for big GT work. The skin is from a US Bull snake and came up absolutely stunning! I've used Fuji K series TiSics which are all double bound and no CP used. I had to use CP over the skin trims at each end to stop the epxy getting under the skin so there is a slight difference in the thread shade there. I'm currently building a matching rod to this but as a spiral wrap and using an Eastern Diamondback skin.

Thanks guys.
John the skins I get come from a lady in Texas, MaryLou Vande Riet. She has the nicest skins going and is a top person to deal with. You can get her at ladyrodbuilder@yahoo.com.

I love it!! Im curious about the blank .How good are they and what rating is this one? Goldielox must have been to your place as you got it just right.Perfect blend of colours without going overboard on trims.

Re: Cape Cod Heavy Popper Rod
Thanks guys. I was really happy with the finished result.
Graham the rod is rated 37kg+ and is a real stick and a half. Moderate action and bends right through to the butt but will take some backbone from the angler to use. Anything that puts a bend in this thing is gonna hurt! The only issue I found with the blank is that the clear coat finish marks very easilly The two blanks I've got must have hit against each other in transit which caused a small blister in the clear coat which eventually pealed off. It wascovered up in the build but still shouldn't happen. Apart from that, they are a beautiful blank.

Re: Cape Cod Heavy Popper Rod
Matt, both of the rods I'm building are for the one customer. He has paid for the best fittings he can get + the price of the skins which aren't cheap. For example the diamondback skin was $237.He ordered a pair of rods totally unique and built to his specifications. I won't go into the total cost on this forum but if you are interested please contact me on fishrod@bigpond.com or through the notifications screen. I should let you know that I don't build any two rods with the same look unless they are for the one customer (I won't build a rod exactly the same as you see in the photo).
