Wellington Point ramp. Users please read !!
hi all. i have just returned from a community meeting held with council members from redland city council about parking at wellington point reserve. i did not attend as an ausfish rep but i did announce that i would be posting all i heard on site. council members present included our new mayor karen williams and councillors wendy boglary (wellington point) and paul bishop (my local). about 15 odd locals and 2 police officers present along with a council planning engineer and a couple more council reps whose names i missed. a few differing opinions. the owner of the cafe there has something of a vested interest in getting as many carfuls of people down there as possible and had apparently been pushing for the meeting for 7 years. she had a few allies down the front who protest against people being fined for parking in trailer bays minus trailers. a retired policeman (and boatie)helpfully pointed out that payment of boat rego is also payment for trailer parking and in addition that the number of trailer bays at the reserve is already below the number statutes decree for the number of ramps there. the number of bays (near enough to agreed upon) was 150 car bays and 75 car/trailer bays. proposals put forward included allowing cars to park in a section of trailer bays for certain hours on the weekend, employing a traffic warden to manage parking and of course signage and penalty enforcement. i would have to say that the boaties and police supported the latter as other options would appear to be unenforceable. council is intending to issue a plan of some sort in august which will be in the local paper and open to public comment. they will also advise interested parties by email. i think that boaties in the redlands (over 10000 registered) need to take a minute to email council and register as an interested party. this affects us all. less spaces at wello pt means more congestion at surrounding ramps. with more and more boats registered each year and an increasing population in general the situations at OUR ramps will continue to worsen if we do nothing. go on, take the minute.
it can take less
. feel free to cut and paste:
re: wellington point reserve trailer parking
dear sir/madam. i wish to register my interest in the parking situation at wellington point reserve as a concerned recreational boatie. i would also like to add that i object to any reduction in trailer parking available. please inform me of progressions on the subject via email.

Re: boaties who value trailer parking space beware
Get stuck into them netmaker.
At least you have a ramp with 75 spots for trailers.
I recently had to battle my council for the right to park my boat on the street. We won however i copped 2 lines of black paint down the side of my hull.

Re: boaties who value trailer parking space beware
So if I remember there are a heap of parallel parking spots along there.
Why not organise a few week-ends of people filling up these spots with cars and trailers (even box trailers) as well as the trailer designated spots?
It is legal to park a registered trailer in a car spot isn't it?? To hell with it.....disconnect the trailer and leave them everywhere.
If they think it's OK to park cars in trailer spots then park trailers in car spots.

yes scott. entirely legal to do that. i would be more interested in boxing in the cars illegally parked in the trailer bays tho. i hope it doesn't come to that but always best to leave options open. can we start a militant wing of ausfish?![]()

in all honesty dick i have only been caught out a half dozen times down there as most of my fishing is mid week. it is more from others accounts and considering what it will be like down there for our kids and grandkids. and it wont just be here. a large number of our ramps up and down the coast are situated in picturesque locations, all of which are becoming popular bbq and birthday party locations. continuing population growth will only increase the pressures on parking at these locations. as it stands, council gets more complaints from day trippers with parking tickets than from disgruntled boaties and we all know about the squeaky wheel... the fact however is that despite council hearing from day trippers more than from boaties, we have the ability via the net to unite and present a larger number than the day trippers (or shop owner and friends) could ever hope to muster. after all, a good percentage will be holidayers. as in all politics, numbers are what wins the end game and we have a chance to make a difference for our future little fishers.

Mate....were the businesses against trailer parking? By the sounds they just want customers parking there and stuff anybody else.
If so then organise a trailer park out for a particular day (hopefully a fine Sunday with no wind) and fill as many parking spots as possible with any trailer that's available. Don't let the cars stop at all.
Make them realise that the people with boats are fairdinkum and, if we want to, boaties can affect their business.
All your asking for is what is rightly yours to start with.
We pay enough for our boat and trailer rego and what do we get for our money??
If I'm in Brisbane I'll be there with a trailer
How long can you park in the car spots and the car/trailer spots?
How many spots would have to be filled to effectively lock out any cars?
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
