Landcruiser 100 series question
I am looking at purchasing a 2001 Cruiser, auto, turbo diesel with low kms.
It is am awesome rig, but I am not sure about the 4 speed vs 5 speed auto. I am only towing a camper trailer and a tinny.
Would i notice the difference between the two gearboxes?
Would the 4 speed auto do the job well enough.
Any thought welcome ASAP.
Cheers
Waz

Re: Landcruiser 100 series question
I had the V8 with the 5speed auto.........brilliant box........the 4 speed is more agricultural but sturdy.
Sounds like the Cruiser you are looking at is a live axl model aswell.........very sought after,,,,,,,,,,IMO jump on it if it's a good deal they are getting hard to find in good nick and very sought after.

Re: Landcruiser 100 series question
Unfortunately it isn't the live axle model. It is the ifs one. I won't be doing any extreme offroading, mainly Fraser and dirt roads.
I think the 5 sped auto didn't surface until 2003.

Re: Landcruiser 100 series question
We have a 2001 TD auto and love it. Would have loved the 5 speed but it was just too far out of the budget. The 4sp box is tuff as nails. Gear changes are smooth and effortless. After driving a auto 5sp, I did want one but dont regret buying the 4sp.
I HATE automatic cars and this is the first one I have owned, I wouldn't swap it for the world now. (went for an auto as we are currently gearing up to tow a camper and boat round the country for a few years) We have upgraded to 3 inch exhaust, a safari intercooler and fitted a Dtronic chip and it goes like a rocket and tows like a dream.
From memory the update was oct/nov 2002?
Good luck with your decision!
Cheers Kim.
