equivalent for eagle claw 635 hook?

This is a bit specific so sorry but does anyone know a gamakatsu or owner hook equivalent for eagle claw 635 jighead hook. i want to use gammies or owners in my jigheads as I'm not a big fan of eagle claw. They are ok i guess, just seeing on the off chance if anyone knows if there is something better out there.

    Cheers

no i havent but im told its pretty easy to do, using a dremel. it think they would only have to be altered around where the eye of the hook goes so its not going to damage the mold much at all

actually just having a look at some of my hooks and the 635 aren't aberdeen I was thinking the 575. the 635 are a much bigger hook so not sure if the will fit. I put a 575 3/0 Aberdeen into a 635 1/0 mold and it fits in snug so you might have to play around with the sizes a bit.

Re: equivalent for eagle claw 635 hook?

I have over 30 moulds and only use Owner, Mustad or Gamakatsu hooks.
Hooks that are compatable to Eagle Claw 635 are Owner Saltwater 90 degree jig hooks in 3/0, 5/0 and 7/0, Owner saltwater 60 degree jig hooks in sizes 3/0, 4/0 and 5/0 and Mustad 32786BLN 60 degree jig hooks in sizes 2/0 up to 6/0. Gamakatsu jig hooks are at least 2 sizes smaller that the other brands and won't fit moulds designed to take the 635.
The best place to source the Mustads is www.lurepartsonline.com . If you let me know what mould you have I can be more specific. Owner hooks are hard to get at the right price in Australia and only a couple of websites stock them. I have a source so send me a PM

    Si,
The Owner 3/0 and 5/0 will fit this mould and the Mustad 32786 in sizes 2/0 to 5/0.
I will be visiting Tackleworld, Sandgate on Saturday and I can bring some Mustads if you want to meet me there with your mould. Send me a PM.

    Cheers

Yes some BCF stores have been stocking these hooks for over 3 years but they are thin gauge wire and do not fit many DO it moulds. They are OK for bream and small flathead but not strong enough for larger saltwater species. The Gamakatsu Heavy wire jig hooks are a better proposition in these small sizes.

    Cheers
