Custom diesel chip for a 3 LT Patrol

Hi Guys, I am looking for some help and/or advice please.

I am looking at doing a custom diesel chip on my 2003 Patrol for better fuel economy and added power. I put on a 3" exhaust system about 12 months ago and I'm very happy with the improvements that made to my patrol. I am seriously considering putting in one of those custom computer chips to give more power, and economy. My main concern is that there is so much companies out there that are doing this chipping these days. My question is what company does these and has a good result from them? and also what is a fair price I should be looking at paying for the chip. Has anybody done this chip upgrade, and what are your comments on the upgrade? Is it worth the extra cost?

I got a steinbauer in my hilux and old mans patrol.. You only notice it when your towing. Don't expect it to be a super car.. If u wanna go fast buy a petrol.. I have friends with other brands and all have had minor problems. Steinbauer is not cheap but was worth it for me as I tow a 2.5 tonne boat

Thanks for that info. I am not really chasing speed... mainly trying to get even better economy from my Patrol. However I intend to be towing my boat to a lot of far away places, so I guess it will be beneficial in that way. How much did it cost you?

Think it was like $1400 or a bouts. Fuel economy is bullcrap.. Mine and my my mates didn't do any better. Mine actually drinks more around the city now. If your towing a bit of weight then it's worth it. Other than that I wouldn't waste my money.. I also have a exhaust and snorkel.

I put a DP chip and a bigger exhaust on my 09 colorado,it uses more fuel than before.But towing the boat it uses less fuel than before. As it is ajustable i thought about just turning it on for towing but i turned it back on after 2 days as the differance in power was enough to outway the bit extra fuel used with it on. I get average of just under 9 liters per 100 klms.

Thanks for that Steve. I think I will keep it the way it is at the moment because I am happy with it since I had put the 3" exhaust on it. I might add it later on but at this stage I will keep it the way it is now, because it will take 10 to 15 year of driving to make up the cost in fuel savings before it starts to pay off.

Hi Guys,

I put a Tune It chip on my GU III Patrol and it's the best thing I have done along with the 2.75 pipe. Performance is far better along with economy. I now sit on 3000rpm at 120kms, that's a decrease of around 800 rpm I reckon. Car is working much easier and so much better to drive.
