Triton any good?
I'm after a new ute to tow my heavier boat. It will be a 4wd diesel turbo 3 or 4 years old. I was thinking colorado or ranger but have found an 08 triton that looks ok. Do they have any reliability issues. Its an auto btw.
I've always had hi lux's but they are getting a bit too $$ for me this time.
No point making things idiot proof, they'll only make a better idiot.

Re: Triton any good?
As far as reliability goes the Tritons have caused me by far the least grief at work with only standard servicing ever needed in the past 15 yrs on about 8 tritons. I can not say the same about the hiluxes, Navaras and Rodeos we have had as well, Navaras being by far the worst for unreliability.
Put it this way, one of the tritons just had its first brake pad replacement at 230 000km and still not to the metal. This ute is a work slug that is constantly heavily loaded and does long runs on a semi regular basis. They carry a load much better than the hiluxes and they are ok for power for the cubes, downside is they are not overly cheap on the fuel but well and truly acceptible.

Re: Triton any good?
If your going to go auto JJ, I would be inclined to thoroughly research them as they can be expensive to repair. I have heard of quite a few Grey Nomads having to fit coolers and some even upgrading vehicles. Myself, I have a V16C haines which I tow with a Mazda BT50 4 cyl turbo diesel 5 speed manual, 2 door and it handles it extremely well, better than the 1998 Rodeo 2wd V6 gas/petrol, and more economical. The Triton and Colorado was looking good but the almighty dollar played a big part in the final decision and not to keen on the electric 4x4 of the Colorado.
Cheers.
Bob.
PS, Bought the Mazda 12 mths old 24000 ks.

Re: Triton any good?
JJ pm me if you like your phone etc as i'm in the industry.. To answer your query tritons are ok.. Main issue with all of the later models of all cars is regular serviceing.. Stay away from those with sparse service history..... Cheers Paul..![]()

Re: Triton any good?
JJ,
I got an 08 triton and rate it highly, bit agricultural in the suspension (so fitted some tough dog shockies)..Very happy with ute overall, tows well. reasonable on fuel. Good tough 4x4 with no frills. I had a check engine light come on a few weeks ago, checked log book...something to do with emmissions. took it in to be plugged in to computer at Mitsubishi...no issues apparently,.they just reset it and away I went.
I just ordered a K&N air filter for it...interesting to see if that improves performance a bit. It needed a new one anyway.
Cheers Steve

Re: Triton any good?
i have an 09 auto petrol triton - love it. among the highest towing capacity out there, handles my 1800 pound platey easily. best thing is, i drove them all when i was shopping and the triton is far superior in the cab. so much more room and comfort for all 4 passengers.

Re: Triton any good?
Thanks for the replies everyone and the offer Inlike. It seems the triton are a good unit that were off my radar until I had to hire a few in Darwin. I'll get back to on here when I'm allowed to make the big decision.

Re: Triton any good?
JJ, I drive one (2009) for work. It occasionally gets loaded up with a max weight trailer and seems to handle it well. I rate it considerably higher than the D40 Navara it replaced. It has never had an issue and traverse some interesting terrain/tracks in its daily work.

Re: Triton any good?
Yep i got a 2008 DiD one, has a fair bit of stuff fitted to it and i love it... Once you chip them, throw and exhaust and up the boost they are a very quick truck... mine weighs around 2.75t with full fuel and water but still towns 2.6t no worries - uses around 18-19l/100 thou, but i do have 32's and 33's![]()
