Re: Green Zone Trespassers
Can someone provide a link where I can easily find the current green zones in QLD. I find it overwhelming at times. And they don't make it easy! I write into the appropriate departments but they simply don't write back.
Cheers in advanceStop professional fishing... before it's too late!

Re: Green Zone Trespassers
Yes Even with the signs, they are still not clear. There are one or 2 signs at Donnybrook and a couple down hayes inlet way that dont really explain where the zones are. They should at least say 'beyond this point'. You can fish one side of these signs but not the other, but how do you know which side without maps GPS etc Is it now compulsary to carry GPS or charts? maybe it is..... i cant keep up with all the new rules

Re: Green Zone Trespassers
[QUOTE=Seahorse;1382458 I didn't see any bait, so maybe they weren't fishing.

I sooo hope that was a dig at the SP crew..... if not, then it should have been![]()
There are only two moments in time.... There's now, and there's too late.

Re: Green Zone Trespassers
Hi
fisheries said they patrol this area 3-4 times per week. They have logged complaint and will be stepping up patrols around the areas mentioned.

Re: Green Zone Trespassers
My Thoughts, well i agree we need GREEN ZONES to allow fish numbers to build up and hopefully move on so we fishers can catch them. Moreton bay IMO has too many zones and without an expensive GPS showing the green zones alot of fisher people wont know or remember where those zones are. These zones are not simple some square some round and some following depth lines etc. I guess not all boaties even have a gps so even if you studied the green zone maps the day before going out you could still make mistakes. Secondly we have speed signs on roads doesnt stop all people speeding. All of our laws and rules are broken by some, so again i guess we the honest law abiding fisher people reduce the risk of these areas being overfished. Finally maybe the authorities that police these laws should concentrate there efforts to these areas in a show of force(a blitz) instead of checked me way up at the nothern bay beacons to make sure i have all the safety gear on my boat, and yes i do, i have been inspected quite a few times treated with common respect neaver anything wrong and never given a fine.

Hi Mrs Ronnie
Yes fisheries patrol the area 3-4 times a week but will not book people in the zone as that is marine parks problem they can hold them till marine parks come but very unlikely I asked them one day about woody point zones and fishing they wanted nothing to do with it.
all it is doing in the area is making the one area that has a bit of reef get flogged as people can not spread out they should at least rotate area's

Re: Green Zone Trespassers
I see a lot of discussion here about the complication of the zones etc. The zone I have brought up here from Woody Pt to Scotts Pt is very easy to see, most boat ramps have maps on signs etc. The the marker beacons are easy to see and correlate easliy to the map.
There is also a lot of dangerous and rocky reef areas in this zone. I dont believe anyone should go boating anywhere without either having a chart or having done some research into the area to identify, reefs, channels, Zones etc.
You can get charts and green zone info at most Tackle Stores, not hard to find.
Its just plain crazy to go out into the wide blue yonder without proper preparation. Thats why we have boating accidents, ignorant underprepared and plain stupid people doing crazy stuff in boats.
Why is it that intelligence is so often left behind as soon as people get in a boat? A friend of mine who is a wealthy busnessman bought a $35,000 boat and screamed up the Pumicestone Passage and tore the leg clean off his motor when he hit rocks at full speed. He was way off the marked channel! First trip out...not a clue...never studied a chart.

Re: Green Zone Trespassers
Hi
I hear what you are saying about ignorance when it comes to boating. I have seen two people run a boat at high speed straight up on a sandbar in Bribie passage and thankfully they were not seriously hurt.
Some of the things you see and hear about makes you wonder sometimes.
Education is the key to all of this IMO. Perhaps making it harder to get a boat licence and throwing in a compulsory session on Environment and marine zones. I really don't know. You are right that signs are at boat ramps in regards to Marine Parks and green Zones. It is highly visible at Beachmere so pleading ignorance and saying I didn't know would not be an excuse in my book.
There's an old saying "she'll be right mate"-who's gonna catch us--- perhaps too many people think along those lines. When it comes to boating and the law most of us on here I am sure whether we agree or not abide by the rules so why should these jokers deliberately defy it and worst of all get away with it. makes you wonder even more.
The point has also been made that it is complicated in defining the exact area of a Zone as yes it is hard to define the boundaries but anyone with a little common sense could judge roughly if they were fishing inside one-- especially if the signs are clearly visible as they are in front of Godwin Beach. IMO if you are going to fish it then look at a chart and it will give you some idea of where those areas are and if you're not quite sure then use abit of sense and judgement and stay a good distance away. Better to be safe if you ask me.
Just my thoughts.

Re: Green Zone Trespassers
We were at the Pelican Park ramp on Sunday night and were stopped for a compliance check and to see what we had caught. The Dpi person was a young lady. Very amicable she was too. After she finished the "official" business we got talking about the Green Zone of Woody Point. She claims that they recently issued over 30 tickets or violations in that green zone over the May long weekend. It was satisfying to hear they are getting a few offenders, particularly when others like us are predantic about staying out of these areas.
A few more notices issued would be good. Anyone tried navigating through the area between Otter Rock and the woody Point Jetty at night? There seems to be a total disregard for the regulations on lighting when anchored. Only when you are almost on top of them do they flash a torch at you whilst whinging. WTF?
