Re: Interpreting a Haines Hunter HIN..can anyone help?
Hi Jack,
It's easy to work out if you read it in reverse. Your number is AU-HHU60280J202.
so ---- 02 is the year in which the boat is ready for sale -- model year - 2002
----- 2 is the year the boat was made -- 2002
----- J stands for the month the boat was built -- October
---- 60280 is the builders id number , eg.- 280 will most likely stand for the build number
--- 60 is most likely the boat type , eg.- 6mtr vessel
--- HHU is the manufacturers code given to them from NSW Maritime Boat Code -- Haines Hunter
--- AU is the country the boat was built in -- Australia
Hope this helps

Thanks Scott...you are a legend. Also, thnaks to Rod previously. I had been led to beleiev the vessel was a 2004...but that did not seem to gel with the HIN.

Hi Shark cat one,
I have just bought an old 213c and the HIN is not similar to your description, so wondering if you know how to decipher my code thanks?

Re: Interpreting a Haines Hunter HIN..can anyone help?
The way I have explained the HIN number is the current way manufacture's work out their HIN numbers.
But what happens in older boats is the HIN number gets lost and if your rego runs out or you alter your boat , you still need a HIN to rego your boat. So what happens is that they will give you one . So your number of AUWWA057149AL8 is broken up like this
--AU ---- Australia
--WWA-- Western Australia ( they cannot give you a haines number because their is no proof that it is what you say except your word )
--057 --- most likely be the hull lenght 5.7m
--149--- is the number of times a 5.7m boat has been rego'ed this way
-- A & L -- not to sure why their is two letters but "A" is for January and "L" is for December ( this is the time the rego was done or changed)
-- 8 -- is for 2008
The numbers - 057149 is only a serial number and maybe configured a different way
So this is not the build year , this is only the year that the boat was re-registed or altered.
So your boat was re-registered or altered in January/December 2008 in Western Australia
This is only an educated guess bassed on how HIN numbers are done .
Cheers
Scott.

Re: Interpreting a Haines Hunter HIN..can anyone help?
even NSW "boatcodes" start with AU-WWA, the AU bit might be right, but the WWA has bugger all to do with Western Australia, the number as I suspected is what the Maritime issue when a new rego is required and the boat was never boat coded, there is no referrence to size or anything else in it, they are issued on a simple numerical system, the last 3 numbers though (I think) are the dealer who did the code. The WWA might just as easily stand for Water Ways Authority?

Re: Interpreting a Haines Hunter HIN..can anyone help?
hmmm well I checked the hull and the plate "waterways" has HIN number as per above. So it sounds like the original HIN has been lost along the way and they have given it this number? So i reckon i have buckleys of workin out what year she was born. Oh well for insurance it will be an educated guess of 1984otherwise they want a survey done if hull is over 30 years ago....
