    Navman 5500 GPS Zoom Issue

I'm hoping someone has an explanation for an issue I have with my Navman 5500 plotter. For some reason in the Noosa area I can't zoom the screen in any closer than a 2.13km screen width. When I move the cursor to areas north or south like Moreton Island or Frazer Island the zoom allows me to go as far in as a screen size of 50m.

Is this a C-Map data card issue?

    Any help would much appreciated.

    Cheers
    Dave

I'm pretty sure zoom is controlled by the scale of the various map overlays that have been scanned onto the card

Re: Navman 5500 GPS Zoom Issue

when you try to zoom further in does the screen go white with basic grid markings instead of the normal coloured map??
if so, this happens on mine. there seems to be certain parts that doesnt allow you to zoom.my map doesnt allow too much zooming around the southern moreton bay islands, and the inner bay - manly harbour and inside green island. dont really know why???, i just figured conditions may change too much for a fully detailed map so a beacon to beacon would be a better option.
    hope this helps,
    matty

Ok, Here is alittle more info to what I added before, hopefuly it helps

I have thesame chart plotter and had the same queries initially

Areas covered by the chart. (extract from web site gpsnuts.com/Nautical/C-Map/NTcompact)

To see the list ofindividual charts and scale of the charts on your c-map card, this can beviewed on their web site.

On the card a numberof charts are nested one within the other. Borders of each chart are indicatedon the display with solid lines or similar and easily distinguishable fromother features.

    Chart detail.

Depending on theparticular source chart scale, different charts are displayed at different zoomlevels.

In general, thesmaller the zoom scale, the more detailed the chart (if available) that isdisplayed and more detail from each chart is displayed.

Most of the time itprovides a clear and readable display, but in some areas that are rich withrocks, shoals or other features , the display may become cluttered andunreadable. As illustrated above, the way to clear the clutter is to change thezoom level.

Extract from the Navman 5500 manual

    Plotter mode

Occasionallyit is desirable to use a chart scale which is not available on a chart card.Examples are:

To zoom in toa small scale to track very small boat movements.

If there isno detailed chart for an area, for example when crossing an ocean.

If Plotter mode is On, then if thechart zooms to a scale which is not available, the TRACKER will enter plottermode and will only display the boat position and track (if enabled). Chart andmap information will no longer be displayed and the display is white with blackcrosshatch lines.

For normaluse, turn Plotter mode to Off.
