    Bimini - Choice of Length?

    Which length do you prefer:
    • Half (stern only)
    • Full (stern to bow)
    • None (and just wear a hat)

I am thinking of having one made up for my 4.1m Polycraft.

I will be flicking lures all the time for barra in the hot, wet and humid conditions of the NT river system

There is a mob in Ballina who make a bimini based on a two post system.
There are no ropes or other supports.'
They are folded in the middle and you could have the front up or the back up or both sides up or take one side off.
The name is a Kingfisher canopy
    They're brilliant.

I see this picture with a half bimini and looks practical so that I can leave up and walk to bow and flick lures without having to worry about snagging the top of the bimini.

    THoughts on this setup?

Yeah I'd go a half Bimini mate. Can walk up to the front to flick lures and you're in full shade while you're driving around (sounder out of the glare of the sun too). Still enough room (nearly) to stand up the back and reel in while trolling.

I use a large umbrella at the front and one at the back. I put the in rod holders that are fitted at the front and back.

I just brought 2 beach umbrellas from BIG W. They wasn't the biggest I could have got, but I thought that they would be a sensible size and they was on special at the time too. I thought that way if they didn't work well then there was not much of a lost of money paid for them. I find them really good because you don't have the cords/ropes and what ever getting in the way of your fishing.
    Cheers, Doug.

Good advice Goodoo I have the same set-up. Can reposition to suit, stow up front when not required and cheap.

Yeah, sure is Shooter. Cheapest way out of it and the bonus of not having ropes and cords in the way of your fishing. They can be tilted to stop the sun from beaming down on you too. Where as with a bimini canopy once the sun starts to get down a little you will still get the heat of the sun on you.
    Cheers, Doug.

Re: Bimini - Choice of Length?

I too currently use a beach umbrella when I need a bit of shade. I've cut a pool nodle in half and shoved the halves down the seat hole in the front casting deck. Umbrella shoves down the hole and is held tight by the pool noodle.

Do a half length towards the stern, you will appreciate the shade there but also the use of your casting deck.
