Somerset monster!
Fishing at somerset a while ago...
Caught about a ten centimetre grunter and wacked him on a four hook rig with some thick kirby kendall hooks.
I reapeted this action roughly fifteen times.
each time the grunter would be savaged and bitten in half!
once i hooked the think and it was just massive and raspy! eventually it dragged me round a stick and broke me off! beastly!
any idea what it could have been?

Re: Somerset monster!
Hi
A big turtle.
Seriously maybe a large yella would do this and especially wrap you around the nearest snag.

Re: Somerset monster!
I recon it could have been a Mary River Cod. There's some up over the meter mark and 50 pounds in Somerset now...
Cheers,
fitzy..

Re: Somerset monster!
Many years ago my uncle used a surf rod and 30lb line below O'Reilly's Weir and caught a monster eel. It was light fawn on the backwhite belly huge at the front with a big hooked nose. As he lifted it out of the water with a 4 ganged hook it roared out of its throat. It wrapped the line around itself and broke him off. I would hate to swim in some of those places with nibblies like that around.

Re: Somerset monster!
I was told by a kilcoy local how some blokes went down in the 70's to check the dam wall for something or other and the divers said there were eels thicker than their waists down there. Apparently they weren't real keen to go back down.
