Where is the best / cheapest place to buy spectra rope
looking for 150-200m of 6 or 8mm spectra rope

Don't know anything about the quality. You could also look at places selling rock climbing stuff but be prepared to cough up some serious dough. I've seen the name Blue Water Titan come up before.

Re: Spectra Rope - where to buy
Minimum break on 8mm nylon 3 strand is just over 1000kg.........it would also be easy to find and cheaper to buy.........it also has streach unlike pe ropes.
Confidence.......the feeling you get before you fully understand the situation.

Re: Spectra Rope - where to buy
It also had a huge breaking strain of 3 ton plus, i used it as anchor rope on a stress free winch which i can give a huge recommendation to anyone buying a deck winch from. Another australian made quality product.

Re: Spectra Rope - where to buy
hey I know you guys are not intending to break an anchor rope any time soon and this stuff is incredibly strong but do you think it wise to use as an anchor rope. I thought about it myself a while back until I read on the specs that it floats. This aspect of using it bothers me from the possibility of snapping or having a rope chafe or cut through on or near the surface while anchored and losing the cut end into the drink, would it remain suspended in the water to foul anything that swims or even motors past it??
If it does indeed float then it may be recoverable if it can be found by the owner, If it can't be found does it become a real threat to passing boats and wild life??
It just happened to me a few months back where my new boat's bowsprit had the usual sharp edges I forgot to remove and the first anchor retreival saw the nylon rope cut through and by the time I got organised it was gone to the bottom and I couldn't find it, not very happy but at least it went to the bottom. Bit worried about Dyneema, but I haven't done any test either to see what it does.
Any thoughts
