    Re: Project Kony 2012

Just watched it with my missus and 4 kids. We are in. This needs to be stopped and we can stop it if we all do something about it! Thanks Jacko

    Re: Project Kony 2012

There is no doubt that this man is a pig and should be stopped, but there is bit more to this story. Below was extracted from the Daily Telegraph. Here is the link to the article. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/new...-1226292986044

But not everyone has fallen in love with KONY 2012. Some are raising doubts as to whether social media is an appropriate forum for advocacy and fund-raising.
Blogs, such as Visiblechildren.tumblr, implore people to research the facts before putting their names to the cause.
"Do I have a better answer? No, I don't, but that doesn't mean that you should support KONY 2012 just because it's something. Something isn't always better than nothing. Sometimes it's worse."
African expert Dr Tanya Lyons says it sounds like KONY 2012 is "cashing in" on a problem that's been around for 20 years, and she warns that there is no simple solution.
"I love Australian democracy and isn’t it wonderful that we have the choice to click on this link to make us feel better," the Flinders University senior lecturer told The Punch.
"But they’re not heroes for clicking on a link. They're just lazy. And giving money won't help."

Born in 1988 from the frustrations against the government of Uganda's marginalized Acholi ethnic group, the LRA has since dropped its national political agenda for the narrow objective of pillage and plunder.
Kony, whose movement draws on messianic beliefs and a smattering of Christian motifs, is wanted by the International Criminal Court.
The rebels currently number several hundred, a fraction of their strength at their peak but still include a core of hardened fighters infamous for mutilating civilians and abducting children to act as soldiers and sex-slaves.
    Cheers Axl

    Re: Project Kony 2012

Would be careful with my money as far as donations go but more than happy to spread the word via social media and stay in touch with it. Cant believe it is a total scam and if old mate makes a few dollars from stopping this so be it, better than the Kardashians getting rich on what they contribute to society my 2c anyway

    Re: Project Kony 2012

I would not put money to it, that org spends about 80% of their income on media and advertising. But its good to see this vid, might put a bit of pressure on govs to stop it. This guy has been doing this shit for a long time. There was a doco on fox a few years back about him.

    Re: Project Kony 2012

The US have had troops in Uganda for some time to knock over the KOnys army or at least offer some protection. I fail to see that this group will do anything of significance other than raise awareness (which is not an insignificant thing!) I agree with the cause but will not donate as I see it as a carbon tax- a feel good exercise to grab guilt money so people feel like they are contributing but with absolutely no tangible impact. I believe Kony has since left Uganda and is now in the ARC.
JJJ Hack did a good piece on it yesterday- get on the website and download the podcast if you want some more in depth info.

    Re: Project Kony 2012

Why do the " white " folks think they have the right to interfer in our countries issues, when those countries are attempting to do something about these things, themselves.

IMO.......... it's a scam by the organisers.

I do not condone what some evil people do in this world, but really, will sending a few dollars to these scammers make a difference ? except of course, to make you all " touchy / feely " i've done good !!!!!!!

“Suggesting that the answer is more military action is just wrong,” said Javie Ssozi, an influential Ugandan blogger.

“Have they thought of the consequences? Making Kony ‘famous’ could make him stronger. Arguing for more US troops could make him scared, and make him abduct more children, or go on the offensive.”

    Copied from elsewhere -
The video itself is a good piece of emotional porn but that's about it. It's honestly NOT worth the 30 minutes when you find out somethings about the organization that is doing this [Invisible Children].
First of all, the guy who made that film get's paid $90,000 a year. That's for him and his family. This does not include him paying costs for film equipment, video editting software, nor does it cover travel or accomodations whilst in anywhere else. Those are all covered under the ludicrous budgets that the Invisible Children organization actually deal with. Let's go to that now. Here are some expenses from CharityNavigator.:
Compensation of Leaders | % of Compensation relative to amount of money made by IC | Title
    $88,241 | 0.99% | Ben Keesey - CEO
    $89,669 | 1.00% | Jason Russell - Co-Founder/Filmmaker
    $84,377 | 0.94% | Laren Poole - Co-Founder/Filmmaker

    Revenue
    Total Contributions: $10,334,060
    Program Service Revenue: $3,423,351
    Total Primary Revenue: $13,757,411
    Other Revenue $7,769
    TOTAL REVENUE: $13,765,180

    Expenses
    Program Expenses: $7,163,384
    Administrative Expenses: $1,444,570
    Fundraising Expenses: $286,678
    TOTAL FUNCTIONAL EXPENSES: $8,894,632

Payments to Affiliates $0 Excess (Or deficit) for the year: $4,870,548
    Net Assets $6,584,811
As if that isn't bad enough, they've refused to Co-operate with the Better Business Bureau, Their transparancy rating is fairly low on Charity Navigator, and allegations of fraud. HuffingtonPost has an article on it here.
Besides, they make a fairly large point about sending money to the Ugandan Military. This is a big no no for a couple of reasons. First of all, Kony isn't even in Uganda. Funding a military that has no real authority over another country to LOOK in other countries, is a moronic idea to begin with. Secondly, the Ugandan military is already using this as an excuse to enter other countries and exploit resources from surrouding areas. The Government of Uganda is full of criminals that are worse than Kony himself. Not to mention the bloody PRESIDENT of Uganda is responsible for millions of deaths. Then you've got allegations coming out that Kony is already dead. The LRA (Konys ragtag bunch of #######s) isn't that large, or all that active.
The worst thing about Invisible Children (In my opinion) is that they lobbies for DIRECT MILITARY INTERVENTION IN AFRICA. After all of the terrorist hunts in the Middle East, and having troops stuck in Afghanistan and Iraq, don't you think that the people would have learned by now that having troops in another country to hunt one ####### isn't exactly the best idea? Especially when some of the Republicans believe that invading Iran is a fairly good idea at the moment. There are SERIOUS issues with this group, issues that people are overlooking. I will admit that at first I was already on Twitter and ready to bitch at people about the injustice that's being served in other countries and then I decided to look into the organization. The information is there, and willing, but people are fearful to even look. Fearful, lazy, or just swept up by the movement. Injustice exists in the world. It is damn stupid, and it sucks ass, but that's the nature of this planet at the moment. Humanity, since rising from the primordial ooze, has killed people over far less than anything you could imagine. Then there's the fact that if Kony is alive, and the ICC, or International Criminals Court, manages to put him on trial, what's it going to achieve? Numerous war criminals have stood trial before the ICC. This isn't a game of chess. You don't topple a pawn and move on. The pawns replicate. It's like fighting a hydra. If you slice off one head, more are going to pop up in it's place. You remove one player, and 10 others will appear. Hell, there's a case to be made that awareness driven ngos perpetuate the current state of afafairs and are an intergral part of the current system of global unfairness. They ovver placebos for guilty consciences and as such, they don't change anything. If you think of large entites such as Global Corporations, conglomorates and powerful nation states that capitalize on injustice, corruption and disorganization and exploit the poor for their resources and manpower, the best thing that could happen to them are programs such as this. There's a lot of reasons why Invisible Children has a good idea of what they're doing, but FAR too much on the opposite sides of the scales to tip myself (and no doubt others) into not bothering with this group and it's practices.

The thing is... it costs a fortune to market to our lazy lifestyle... to get anything into the spot light needs funding the size of a small country.. so if 20% is around all that gets out there well surely thats better than 100% of bugger all. I have read alot of the good and bad about the org.
The answer does seem pretty simple in stopping this bloke... pretty similar to the way they stopped Pablo.. good old military interevention and shoot to kill....
dont knock on deaths door... ring the doorbell and run... death hates that!!

Trouble is they have tried this a few times. Each time they havent been able to find him (look how long it took them to find sadam and Osama with 10 000s of troops). And each time they have tried he has responded by slaughtering 1000s of civilians in retribution once they left the country. Not quite as simple as that unfortunately. The US also has bigger fish to fry. As bad as this prick is there are many more countries suffering atrocities on larger scales. One only needs to look at Zimbabwe and the US arent intersted in that.

Pleeeeease.. He is in Africa with no where near the funding or technology of those you have mentioned.. If they sent in a team and the technology it would take em a month at best.
bigger fish.. yeah maybe true but i guess this one has resonated with the general public...
Really bad things have happened that have never got the attention that it deserved ..remember Rwanda?? it was basically genocide and at the time a cat up a tree getting rescued would have got more attention.
Again to make a comparison to Pablo.. He did the same thing, any move against him caused retribution especially from foreign sources...

so they should just leave him be then? Is that what your saying?? i dont get it?
