beach fishing newbie

Hey guys, would like some info on beach fishing. Have done all other types of fishing for years but never really did the beach since I was a kid. The main part I'm keen to know is how to spot things like gutters, where the best spot to cast, how far out do u need to cast etc. I've found lots of helpful info on gear and stuff so I'm fairly sorted there.

Id prefer using plastics and slugs but won't shy away from a livey.
