Re: Dream exploratory trip(s) for 2012. please share :)
Hello all,
We're just waiting for the new trailer to turn up for the cat (the last one was the wrong model) and for Pete (Grand Marlin) to install the new transducer then we are set.
Set for what - Fish the outer Sea Mounts off the Gold Coast. Roughly 100miles offshore. Hit the pinnacles for deep water ooglies and spend the rest of the day time chasing the big schools of striped and Blue Marlin. At night try and break one of the holy grails for amateur fisherman - broadbill swordfish. All up - two nights three days. Probably leave through the Seaway and comeback through Tweed or even Ballina. Couple of keen fellow Ausfishers lined up and we will be pushing the boundaries.
Cant wait.
Brett

I have fished douglas a few times, with a bit of extra fuel (for safety) we could also look at giving morsby banks a go as well, i have a fisher 600 maxi c/cab she carries 250ltrs, if my memory is correct i think it is 10/15 nm to north west island (safe overnight anchorage) i will do some home work and get back to you.

FisHard did a bit of h/work and douglas is 12/14 nm from northwest and morsbey is 27 nm from n/w, could look at fishing east broomfield,a few blokes from work fish that way i will ask them what its like out there.

Good work! I had figured on overnighting at NW. I'm curious about this Moresby BanksHaven't heard of that one! Any idea what sort of depths we are talking? I'm more into trolling and casting surface lures, so big structure, particularly if it comes up close to the top, is very appealing!

No boats involved for me but my dream trip for 2012 is simply to make it to Fraser in my own 4WD possibly around early October.
And in 2013 what else could it be but re-living the dream - Suki Creek, PNG... big barra & black bass in the same location..!

PM sent, better late than never!
Guys,
I've been on a weeks holiday to Vanuatu. What a beautiful place! Port Vila (capital) is a bit scummy, but within walking distance of the main drag, lies some really pretty spots. Drive 10 or 20 mins out of town and you'll find undescribable paradise![]()
I did a half day fishing trip with a local operator in a 7m banana boat. Umm, wouldn't really bother with that again...
The snorkelling, sight seeing and just relaxing in an ideal setting is what our trip was really all about. A magic, magic place!
Anyone interested in a convoy of trailerboats to head over?it can't be too far, only took 2.5hrs in a plane. How many jerry cans do you reckon I'd need in the Seafarer?

Re: Dream exploratory trip(s) for 2012. please share :)
I couldn't help drag up this old thread to see how we all went with our dreams and aspirations this year???
Personally, I never got to Douglas Shoal or North West islandbut we did the 3 day mothership trip with the Seafever guys- that was awesome! I wrote an article that got published in FandB Boatmag in September (I think)
The real highlight of my year was onboard with Seafever in October when we travelled from Airlie to Cairns in the 32 Pirate. We ran wide to Flinders reef which is approx 150nm offshore. Conditions were spectacuar and whilst the fishing was a tad disapointing, overall the trip was brilliant. I will never forget the beauty of the environment out there- just breathtaking!
To sum up my year, whilst I've had some unreal adventures, they've been few and far between. Business has really ramped up again after the gfc knocked us around a few years ago, and I've never worked so hard. My boat has seen water less than 10 days this year![]()
Ok, enough about me! How has your year gone?
Cheers
FH
