And people wonder why laws are made to cater for the idiots out there.

They give out warning to try to stop this from happening. Not only is his boat stuffed, they risked their own lives, but also risk the lives of the coast guard to go and get them. Should've thought of safety first and not just a day on the water.
Good things come to those who bait

I was at King Beach on Australia Day and had a look at the bar - wow - mystified anyone would have gone near it - it was a complete mess.
    Cheers

I have told this story a hundred times but it is still funny (sort of).. about 2 years ago I took my 4.3m centre console to the Caloundra bar but it was standing up a bit so I motored over to just before the break to wait out the biggest and time the exit with the lull in the swell... all good in theory except my motor cut out and the outgoing tide dropped me into the break zone pretty quickly. I have since sold the boat but the motor had not cut out before then and never again in the time I had it .. I took about 5 good waves over the front of the boat with each one nearly flipping me over. The only thing that stopped me going over was the last of the wave would hit the motor and drag the back of the boat sort of straight on to the waves again... I got the motor restarted just in time to retreat to dry land to relieve my bladder haha ... apart from nearly making a mess of my boat and my undies I was chucking a sickie to go fishing and thought I was going to end up on the 6 o'clock news!!

My story ends well but for these poor buggers the conditions have been very ordinary for a while now so they are lucky to get away with their lives.. bugger the boat!!

Even with our over zealous lawmakers - don't get me started on them - No law made will stop someone having a brain snap and attempting to cross a bar that every one else would not even think of crossing in those conditions.

He may be an idiot - he may have just made a bad call (well actually, he did). Comes a time when people need to be responsible for their own actions.

    Don't need any more laws........

My family have been in Mets surf club foryears now (I have been there for about 16 years, since nippers). I have regularlygone out on my clubby or the ski in those 16 years and I tell ya the amount ofthings I’ve seen happen on that bar are amazing. From incompetent people going overit on a ocean kayak to boat users and jet skiers. I have had to rescue a fewpeople in the IRB when I have been on Patrol and when we ask them what happenedmost of them say it looked safe to me. It’s not just when there is a swell comingthrough either. Most of them are tourists as well i might add. I was always taught not to underestimatethe power of the surf no matter the size. I have come a cropper on me ski andboard a few times and often think to myself gee I’m glad I wasn’t in the boatwhen that thing came through haha

It would have been a terrible way to start Australia Day," Caloundra Coast Guard duty skipper Alan Drabble said yesterday. "They were unlucky that they had the accident, but they were lucky to escape with their lives."

UNLUCKY they had the accident??????????????????????????????? They should be charged with stupidity and being idiots, then locked up.
