I never flush my motor, so why would I use a salt prevention product?

Re: Flushing Motors - Who uses "Salt away / Macs / Salt X" type products and who does
When I get back from an offshore trip I run my motors straight away with fresh water for about 10 mins to flush, then I wash the boat thoroughly. When I put the boat in the shed a half hour later I then rerun the motors in a drum of about 170L to 1.5L Salt X, a very weak dilution for about 5 mins. Only recently started doing this as the reports on the salt x website looked impressive.

With MACS as the water hits it it turns white so im of the opinion that its just soluable oil at a inflated price?????

Now use macs, used to just flush with water for a few minutes after thermos opened, found some salt residue in around thermos when I serviced it last, so started using macs, no salt residue now so I guess it works.

I was told you can get a bag that you pull up over the leg then fill with water to get the benefit of a tank (top of engine flushed better?) without having a flushing tank taking up space.
Any reports on those things?

WalrusLike! I bought one of those fold-up outboard motor flusher bags sometime ago, worked fine for a couple of engine flushes but they are not as solid or sturdy as a plastic drum, you cannot engage forward or reverse for fear of tearing the lining and it also tears easily if it catches on any sharp points, mine has since ended up in the rubbish. I now have a solid plastic drum that fits nicely and flexes under the leg of my outboard-works a dream.

i use one of those fold away flusher bags many times, no issue so far... i let it run for 15 mins but as someone once said no perfect solution, but i understand the bucket or drum is the best compromise ( in a bag/drum surely your running water which has some salt from the motor anyway?)
The beer is the same on both sides of the boat

Is there a reason to engage the gears? I don't so far... Should I?

started using Saltx in mine, works out cheap so why not I thought ,I also wash the trailer down with it using a spray bottle fitting on a pressure washer.

Re: Flushing Motors - Who uses "Salt away / Macs / Salt X" type products and who does
Hi all, I have been using Macs for 9 years now on 3 different outboard motors and have not had any over heating problems or salt build up while carrying out any maintenance but what got me using it original was I wash out using bore water and there would be more minerals in it than fresh water so Macs was it. I also use the dispenser to give the hull and trailer a final spray with washing up detergent 4 x strength and any salt that the boys have missed is quickly gone.
Cheers
