Re: A new Tow Vehicle - opinions please
I cant understand how anyone can say the Prado is a better ride than a Pajero???
Wal take one for a drive for yourself, IMHO the Pajero is a far superior handling and riding car than the Prado.
As for the Terry, given the trouble my brother has had with his, it would be waaaay down the list (even have a Landy before a Terry
)

Re: A new Tow Vehicle - opinions please
I have a 2008 Pajero VRX, 3.2DID all the same requirements as you wanted, used to have a 2006 Territory, went well drove would pass anything except a fuel bowser, waiting for the new Diesel; model, but read initial report in Wheels, seem we get the lowbrow model of 2.7ltr with one turbo,.
I agree with Scott , cant believe anyone would rate a Prado over a Pajero, (let alone a Territory) ....unless they drive like Miss Daisy.... the Prado (typical Toyota, is encased in rubber for quiet noise levels, agreed,... but it has all the handling characteristics of a piece of licorice,.
My Pajero is a 5speed Auto & its really good, now has 93,000 no problems, only quivel I have is crappy standard lights, fixed with HID Highbeam, & upgraded lowbeam & a Pair of decent Driving lights.
Pajero doesnt quite handle as good as the Territory, (Just ask the XR6 I chased over the Snowy Mts one Sunday arov before he pulled over & let me through).
New Model NT has 147kw & 440NM so plenty of go there, my kids did like the territory only because the back seat was a little wider, They now have a DVD player in roof ( & I got a Rev camera ),
Lots of guys cant believe how mine pulls up the hills around Tumut or Jugiong & Yass, especially with the Auto, it doesnt jump around between gears just drops one cog on a couple of the BIG hills & hammers away @ 115kph getting 12.5/13.5l per 100kl
I tow a 4.6mtr boat @1200kg every 3 /4th weekend , from the Riverina up to either Burrinjuck, Blowering or Eucumbene to fish so it tows in the mountains a lot, got a chip on mine to bring it up to NT model power, cant recomend Pajero enough, didnt rate Mitsubisihi before I drove one of mates , have owned Territory, best mate has Prado....terrible, forget Challenger & Kluger.
best possible carf or you would be either NT VRX Pajero DID or new Diesel Teritory with a chip to "wake up " 2.7 diesel.
Possible would like my 3.2 & 5 speed Auto ina terrltory chassis, handling & economical power !!!
Cheers

Re: A new Tow Vehicle - opinions please
If its any help i've had new grand cherokee laredo, the 3.6 v6, for about a month now. Haven't done any towing but can confirm it should meet all your comfort requirements. I upgraded from an 03 navara str so it was a pretty big leap comfortwise for our family. Plenty of room in the back seat, we've got a baby seat plus 2 teenagers in the back with no complaints on trips from brisbane to noosa.
My understanding is the diesel is due for release in June. However the quake in japan has delayed production in a lot of the good colours. I've heard there have been some other delays with some orders not expected until july. So if your deadset on a diesel jeep grand you should start talking to dealers now and try and bag any initial stock they may have in that June shipment.

Re: A new Tow Vehicle - opinions please
G'day,
If you love your Territory buy another one. The 2.7TD engine and ZF transmission are proven in Jaguars, Land Rovers and Peugeots so the most significant changes pose no issues.
The medium duty 4WD alternatives on your short list only offer more off-road capability and weight. As a daily commute and boat tractor you don't need it.
If you buy a Prado diesel you can be reasonably assured of good future resale value - but there is a compromise which I'll describe below. So it comes down to task suitability and change over price between new Territory and Prado.
About the others:
Jeep: Chrysler has been rescued from chapter 11 bankruptcy post GFC by Fiat (of all companies). Apart from Fiat getting access to some old technology factories in the USA to buid cars of indifferent quality in the USA for that market I don't understand the synergies. I think Chrysler and Fiat will go broke (yet again) so I wouldn't buy one.
Prado and Pajero: They both have rear doors with heavy spare wheels mounted on them. They are heavy. Let your wife take a long hard look at this. Compared to the two piece rear door arrangement on Territory, they are a punishment. Also, they foul the winch posts on boat trailers so loading and unloading is horrible with the boat hitched up.
Hope this helps and I don't sell Fords or anything else.

Presuming that is your big tub in the photo, and the coin ur willing to spend. I will put forward the Land Rover Defender... I am a bit of a Land Rover nut.
- Has a 3.5Tonne tow capasity
- A powerful 4 cylinder economical motor
- The new modles are comphy, (compaired to the old)
Is a real rig, id give it a test ride if I had any money, but still an apprentice.
And my girl loves driving mine!
