Qld E-petition to stop demolition of established fishing huts
A petition has been started to try and stop the demolision of established fishing huts in the Halifax Bay National Park.
Some of these huts were built and have been maintained for nearly a century and provide enjoyment for many local families. They were not built 'illegally' as the Govt is claiming, the land they were built on was once privately owned and every hut owner had the permission of the landowner to build their little peice of barradise.
Over the years the Federal and State Government has reclaimed possession of the land and a few years ago a national park was declared where most of the huts are situated, with NO consultation. Anyway, now the State Govt want to take in demo equipment and rip these hut to peices all the for green movement, not only huts in the National park, but also ones adjoining the Nat park on State land. Many arguments have been made as to why they should be demolished namely the building are not up to code, however all of them have been through and survived countless cyclones with no more damage than you'd expect from a regulation 'upto code' house in a residential area.
People simply use these huts to get away for a bit and enjoy fishing, crabbing, and just being in the bush for a weekend or 2, and have done for for many years and generations
Here's a bit of a snippet from today's paper: http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au...2191_news.html
I ask you all to please sign this petition, these huts represent a big part of many people's lives and don't forget, all were legally built back in the day, all are well maintained and users of these huts are often cleaning up after other grubs camping in the same area and leaving their garbage behind.
other huts in other parts of the country, that have been around a lesser amount of time have even been approved by national Parks, and even have their own caretaker group appointed, as seen here: http://pacific-edge.info/hidden-path...coves-history/

In life, start off wrong and you'll finish wrong. Put just one skeleton in the closet and you'll have to put another one in to hide the first, and so it goes.
But start off right and you'll finish right. There's no comeback when you stick to the truth - and no skeletons!

Weren't cabins of a similar nature put on the Heritage list in NSW??
These huts should be as they're of significant heritage value.
Maybe the people trying to stop this can try that approach??
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Are these the huts around Orient and Red Bream Ck. I have fantastic memories of these areas as a kid and Dad even had a water colour painting of the Roberts Hut done and hangs in his house now in Tugun.

Re: Qld E-petition to stop demolition of established fishing huts
Done. I hope they don't track who signs these things like the old Jo govt did with protesters. There was 6 different petition numbers in the drop down when I signed![]()
Never been there but I believe the huts and their part-time occupants would not do much damage to the environment.
If and I hope it doesn't happen, they demolish the huts, it'll only be to make the Govt look better in the publics' eye and get more of the Green vote. There will have been no real science to back any claims they make.

Re: Qld E-petition to stop demolition of established fishing huts
Thanks to everyone who signed. The demolition has been postponed for 12 months whilst the State and local Govt commence renegotiation. 12 months might not be a lot, but at least its another small win for those of us you like to go outside
