Deckie list
Have seen others talk about making a list of deckies ready to come,
but never really needed it before, I've always had 1 good reliable deckie, but, Thursday this week was the best day for a long time,
and you guessed it, no deckie available,
and the cook wont let me go to sea alone.
SO.... how about we start a register of deckies ready to come to sea??
For me , a suitable deckie would,
Live in or near Ballina. so they could be at the ramp still in the dark,
have their own gear, capable of fishing 100 mtrs..at least,
Be prepared to share the cost and the catch,
be prepared to help clean the fish,
be prepared to help clean the boat and gear at the end ofthe day....
Only other rule is, skippers decision is final, in all matters.
So, anyone in Ballina area keen to be short-listed in case a good day comes?

Re: Deckie list
Seahorse,
Yeah mate, I have contacted a few boaties in the past but not many bothered to return a reply, I believe the majority of the boaties have their dedicated deckies.
Good effort and hard work on your part to get that database up and running.
Send me a pm next time you're haeding out for whiting or squid.

Re: Deckie list
For me the problem I have is getting someone that is local that can go with little or no notice, or on the other hand have a trip cancelled without putting out to much.
So if your a willing deckie in the Tweed area pm me with your details. I do tend to want to go out at odd times because of work commitments

Re: Deckie list
Seahorse..your databse is a sticky i nthe "going Fishing" section.
I have been fishing with quite a few members on here..some on my boat and some on charters..all good company and helpful. You can't go too far wrong with people from on here.

Re: Deckie list
If some one wants me to be a deckie for the day I wont bother. If some one wants me to go fishing then I will be there. Just my take on the deckie thing.

Re: Deckie list
I'm starting to think that the word "Deckie" is misunderstood, for me a deckie is someone that will come with me and help with jobs on and around the boat.
E.g. Help with launching and retrieving the boat and setting and pulling the anchor. I always fill the tanks myself as I tend to to that when I fill the car a few days before hand. I would rather clean the boat myself and flush the motor.
All a deckie of mine has to do is bring there own gear and bait. heck I'll even cover that if they are a bit short.
I'm not running a free charter service, but I do not expect to gain anything out of it either.
Just my thoughts

People get too hung up on the word deckie. It is just another phrase for fishing buddy.
