Current and Ocean Temp Forecasts
I'm very keen to get into a few pelagics off Pt Lookout this season. My last two trips saw poor water conditions with little bait and few fish being caught. I'm trying to find a method of predicting what the water conditions will be like out there in terms of temperature and current.
I was checking out the BOM sea temp and current forecast http://www.bom.gov.au/oceanography/f...=13&forecast=1 and to me it looks like it is improving later this week. What sites do you guys use and what are you looking for? The detail on the BOM site map is hard to make out due to the scale
Cheers

Re: Current and Temp Forecasts
I look at all of the weather sites and split the difference just to get an idea, seabreeze is easy to read but you gotta beleive in the easter bunny too, the other day i just typed in " weather report" and the first one on top seems allright,
so far from it seems to be a toss up between weds and thurs, Cheers

Re: Current and Temp Forecasts
Gday Horse,
That is about as good as you will get for a forecast. I use seasurface.com for SST and Sea colour satellite shots, you can watch them over a few days prior and pick a trend. I also use this one http://www.marine.csiro.au/remotesen...ne/latest.html
as a wider overview of whats going on, where the big eddie is sitting, where the water is getting pumped in from outwide etc. If you go to "Page" up on the right of the tool bar and go to "Zoom" 400% it makes for easier viewing. If you are not familiar with the Zulu time format, just add 10 hours to the time stated on the chart for QLD local time.
The current out wide is roaring! We had a solid 3.5kts on the shelf for my last trip there.(10.5kts G/S going S.E with it and under 4kts trucking back into it) The CSIRO charts shows it fairly well.
Cheers,
Myles
