Camping on Moreton Bay islands
We've been thinking about taking the kids sailing (small cat)/camping over Christmas. Not far - maybe sail from Victoria Point to one of the Redland Bay islands (I think Blakesley's Anchorage might be a bit ambitious for our first attempt) and was wondering what the "rules" are. Can we pull up at some deserted beach and pitch a tent for the night (obviously we wouldn't be leaving anything but footprints behind). One of the guys who rents tinnies out at Jacobs Welll told me people take them overnight sometimes and just choose one of the 30 islands in the area to camp overnight on so I'm guessing this must be allowed on some islands at least?

Make sure you take insect repellant otherwise they will pick you up and take you away.

Aerogard at the ready - permanently!
So would this be generally considered acceptable? What about inhabited islands like Coochie, Macleay, etc?

I think Peel has a ranger and down at the Bedrooms they have a ranger come around every so often and pick up camping money. That would be my first choice. You will have to go there. Brick toilets and showers. Cold water, but at this time of year a blessing. Plenty choices where to fish with also a beach option as well.
PS tide at Bedrooms is same as Brisbane Bar but the beach is 1 1/2 hours before.
Good luck.

Thanks so much for all the information! S Straddie sounds like a fantastic idea. I wonder how long it'd take to sail a 14 ft cat from Vicky Pt down to there... good excuse to find out!

Re: Camping on Moreton Bay islands
mate its between tipplers and the north western tip of south straddie.
...its a fantastic spot for swimming with the kids on the western side, but just be careful about how much water you draw (your cat should be especially if you lift the keel) - my V163 used to touch in places even on the higher parts of the tide but I dont take my Vagabond in there. If anyone has got in and out on high tide (and if so what tide) with a 6m glass deep V can they post it up?
Cheers
Boat: Seafarer Vagabond
