Your second choice, if there is one

Well I know Barra are on the top of most of our list to chase and catch but if you had to chase something else what would it be?

I like chasing bass, mainly due to their aggressive nature and willingness to take surface presentations.

Also got back into fishing the salt in the past year or so. And have been enjoying chasing snaps, pearlies and grassies on plastics.

    Nath,

Jacks, just can't wait till those releases in Awoonga start to be caught on a regular basis.

Love chasing Jacks in the estuaries, up and down the Qld and Northern Nsw coast.

Could I pick "all the above"

OK ....... I love lure casting in the mangroves for wild barra & jacks etc - so jacks it is ( even though I haven't done a great deal of it )

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Sweedish backpackers not on the list???

Ohh OK....all of the above really....on equal terms...even barra. I like each for their own merits really. Cod in a serene river, clear water and big surface smash, bass on plastics that look like footballs, big angry jacks 5 mtrs from a snag...hand to hand combat, sooties in 2 ft of water in FNQ.....the list goes on....what ever I get a chance to fish for is just fun...this week its whiting, dart and hopefully a tailor off the beach with the kids.

If I had to pick one?? bass.....very close second and third jacks.
    Cheers Steve

Hey Stevo, Would you know what to do if you caught one ??????

    Are they edible ????

Nath, I'd go for jacks mate, mean, nasty aggressive red devils.

    Cheers,
    John.

mine is non of the above. My favourite fish to catch is definitely fingermark, they grow just as big as barra, pull twice as hard, and taste 10 times better, and everyone knows gold is worth more than silver

    too true Scott!!

We come across a patch of 4 to 5 kg specimens (not even that big) up of North island at Booraloola one time....man did they go hard...thought they were OS trevally or sharks at first!!!...the barely legal ones in the river system fought bloody hard too.....and your right..they are very tasty!!!

I went with Bass only because I can still fish for them in lots of places close by.

Would like to try to target jacks more often, but I can't find the time

    Cheers

yup, all of the above, but voted jacks....nasty little creek dwellers ..and love the surface boofs most of all...and the first run ,and the second, and pullin em out of snags, and lockin up , hand to fin combat, and the bust offs....yea good fun even if you dont land
    them...

Bonefish and Giant Herring and tarpon for the sport factor. For the table I would opt for grunter, fingermark and jacks.
FWIW I do not target barras anymore, will accept them as bycatch, but rather place my attentions elsewhere now. Caught enough to satisfy my demons.
    Jack.
