BAy fishing at night??
Hi All,
Newbie here
Looking at going out near Coochie or Peel tomorrow night in the tinnie.
Ive been out a few times but haven't had much luck, just wondering if anyone wants to give up a couple of spots to bash.
Mostly soaking baits but will try anything.
Cheers,
Ben

Re: BAy fishing at night??
Try in close s/w rocks, or the green beacon out front, or the n/w corner of goat island, or half way between the spit and hanlon light along the drop off.

Thanks Webby,
Stupid questions a plenty here....
You're talking Gold Coast Spit? Also never heard of Goat island.

Benone...the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.

Thanks for the locations Webby. Might give them a go myself.
Benone, hope the attached map helps. Watch out for the Green zones. I have marked them on the map myself - all care taken, no responsibility accepted.

The red beacon at the back of Coochie or the red floater in the front can produce some nice fish.
Good Luck

Re: BAy fishing at night??
Hi Guys, my first post here! Just wondering if you get many parrotfish or tuskies around the dropoff on the southern side of the spit at Peel? I love eating these but have only managed to catch the odd one around Peel - never tried near the spit though... any recommendations are appreciated.

Re: BAy fishing at night??
if you try the green south of the rocks, your sure to get a grass tuskies, you need to be on the western side of the green, and fishing the bottom with a nice fresh prawn, but it only happens during daylight hours.

Re: BAy fishing at night??
Just with regards to maps and green zones.
BCF usually have 1 copy of the Moreton Bay Marine Park Map with Green zones on their counters. The maps are of great overheads and clearly mark all coloured zones and show their meanings. they are also a great rough place to mark your spots on.
I've never actually seen anyone post where you could get the maps so just thought I would post it up here.
Keep up the great work guys

Re: BAy fishing at night??
I picked up my Mbay marine park guide at local parts shop...free and very useful for us newbies to learn and explore than trying to find your way through a beacon to beacon text book. Avoids fines and saves marine species, those dang turtles are everywhere some days, by knowing the zones where they may be prominent and zones you cant fish.

Re: BAy fishing at night??
I have done a few of the Bay Islands at night. My preference is between 3am and daybreak and for half an hour after sunset. Most of the rest of the time I am just twiddling my thumbs.
I agree with Timiboy. Use your lights. I nearly ran into some clown recently. He was drifting. Thank goodness he was smoking a cigarette because that was all that gave away his position to me.

Re: BAy fishing at night??
With the weather warming up, I'll be doing most of my brinny fishing at night.
No crowds, far more pleasant temperature wise.![]()
The only fly in the ointmentis those who don't use their lights!!! Mind you, many have no choice as their boats aren't even fitted with them!!!![]()
I've had one near miss on the Pine and got abused for not watching where I'm going.![]()
