Browns Rocks, middle Wall, The Caves are all good bream spots.
The Broadwater above Maclean should have Whiting and Flathead.
Buy the Fishing Monthly NSW and have a read on whats going on.

Ockoman is right on the money. Pump some yabbies on the flats to the west of Whiting Beach and you are in for sure. The oyster racks between the Calypso Caravan Park (at the end of the main street) and the Marina all hold good bream. Sneak out under the cover of darkness and get your yabbies right up against the beds and bream can't resist.

Palmers Island is another spot worth a try as is Maclean (about 15 min drive inland from Yamba).

The Clarence is renowned for Flathead also, so hit the sandbars just upstream from the middle wall with some pillies or SPs and you should catch a feed.

    Enjoy

Oyster channel, plague proportions of school jew (.5-5kg) as well as some great flathead on liveys. Biggest pulled from there was a 9.1kg fish taken a few months ago. (I actually saw a boat with ausfish stickers there yesterday arvo on my way to work)
The middle wall if you want to specifically target trophy sized flathead. Fish about 5m out and keep your lures right on the edge of the sand/bottom of the wall. There is also a great big eddy at the end of this which is great for jew.
Heading west, you reach browns rocks. You can't miss it. There's a green marker in the middle o the river, a loading jetty on the northern section and about w42432423 boats there. Always some nice fish.
There's not a huge amount of outstanding spots between browns and maclean other than the bridges and muddy banks. Both of these produce some cracker fish, albeit inconsistenly.
Once you head past maclean you reach Rocky Mouth. It's on the south side of the river where another arm of the river branches off. Jacks, Trevally, bream and flathead.
Keepheading up and you'll reach the broadwater, great shallow water fishing for flatties and bream. If you're keen on flyfishing, this is where i caught my first saltwater fly captures.
