Thread: what weight are the various sinker sizes??

  1. #1

    Question what weight are the various sinker sizes??

    Is there an accepted weight for a particular size of sinker??
    ie is a 2 ball or bean always the same weight or are they like 2/0 hooks and size varies to manufacture...and vary greatly??
    What are the weights of various sinkers??
    Why aren't they categorised like jigheads or bigger snapper sinkers (by weight)??
    Just wandering...that's all

    Cheers then

    I have been making up lots of jighead variants of late using 000 00 and 0 size sinkers and yes there is a lot of variation in weight. diameters remain failry constant but hole sizes vary greatly.
    For example i have found 00 sinkers can weigh from 2.1 to 3.5 grams even though the diameters are within .2mm.

    Finga, I have a few packs of 10 ball that vary very dramatically. Some are closer to 8 ball size if you ask me

    I bought a pocket sized digital scales from ebay for $20. Then I weighed all my sinkers and got a flat tackle box with 10 compartments in. The sinkers are now all sorted by wieght in a box.

    Combine this with a running sinker clip, and now I know that Im always using the minimum sinker weight in the rivers. This is essential for bait fishing.

    cheers

    I was saying that to a bloke just the other day Andrew.
    Why aren't they sold by weight like jigheads?? It would be a lot easier I reckon.

    Re: what weight are the various sinker sizes??

    I have recently made 115kg of sinkers from moulds sold locally in Brisbane.

    6 ball = 50gm
    7 ball = 75gm
    8 ball = 100gm
    9 ball = 140 gm
    10ball = 150 gm

    Snapper droppers

    4oz = 125 gm
    8oz = 260 gm
    9oz = 290 gm
    12oz= 340 gm

    Sinkers weights can vary due to the diameter of the hole in the ball sinker mould.

    Cheers
    Barry
