Listing caused by lazer foil
Heres a question for everybody. We have a 609 stabicraft with a 150 honda 4 banger running a 17 stainless solas, i fitted a foil to the honda ( yes i made doublely sure it is straight ) & noticed that the boat now has a slight list to port which is quite noticeable when underway. Trimming out fixes the list a bit but not completly.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem, apart from fitting trim tabs. The weight distribution in the boat is ok. Have thought about maybe moving the foil slightly to one side or maybe trimming one side of it very slightly?
Has anyone else experienced this problem after fitting foils?

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
Did you have any X wind coming from the port side?????
My Tub will lean in to the wind if it's there.A marriage licence should be like your fishing licence!
Expires every year and you get a 3 day pass when you go interstate.

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
Why did you fit the foil to start with?
Was the boat experiencing problems before?
Is the foil slightly above the water when planing?
Is the motor perpendicular to the hull??
Have you got any pictures of the motor/boat showing motor height etc?
Cheers then

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
Take the foil off and go for another run. If it still lists to one side then you know, for sure, it's not the fitment.

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
Wags and Finga are on the money, why did you fit it? was it OK before? and last, take it off and try it again, at full planing speed, the foil should NOT cause any issue, unless your motor is way too low.

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
Thanx for the replies everyone..
Never used to list before fitting the foil.
Fitted the foil as boat tended to be a bit arse down & was trying to save money by not fitting trim tabs, also to help planing speed as we run some dodgy bars.
At full speed you dont notice it as much.
Havent looked to c if the foil is slightly above water when planning have not been fishing lately unfortunately.
Is it meant to be slightly above water when planning?
Will endeavour to put somes photos up soon.

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
ya if your little trim fin that offsets the prop rotation is out of whack it will show up big time when you trim fully in which means your turning to compensate for it hence the lean....clear as mud??

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
adjusting the little tab may be helpful, but you need to remember it was OK before, you may be just covering up a problem you created.

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
This is starting to look like a case of "circle work"
Pls take some pics with the motor half way thru the trim range. Take them
from the side and from directly behind to show the cav plate in relation to the bottom of the boat.
Also a pic of the rear of the boat showing the position of the motor mounting on the boat.
When you planning at medium to faster speeds and you have trimmed your motor back / out there should be sufficient space between the bottom of the foil and the water for you to slide your fingers into the space.
Of course you cannot do this as:-
1 your arm is not long enough and
2 if you did you may lose a few fingers, so dont try, just look!
If you cannot see a space between the foil and the water probably the motor is too low hence the foil is not above water at speed and you potentially have drag and a lean.
Cheers

Re: Listing caused by lazer foil
Mate i have a SE 300 on my Poly,
Have had sum resolvable issue's, Like Chimo has said picts will help resolve your issue,
You should be getting more lift out of the foil though, Maybe not enough as its a bigger boat , in turn creating extra drag and the lean your talking about,
Be something simple mate
always is .
My foil for me has made a huge difference on hole shot and low planing speed, Well worth it if thats what your looking for,
Good luck with it
