Tyres Again!
Hi all
Any thoughts on the Pirelli Scorpion ATR. I read a tyre test in 4wd monthly that rated them the best all rounder in the All terrain tyres. Just wondering, has anyone had experience with these tyres. I've had prices quoted from $255 To $330! Any comments appreciated.

Re: Tyres Again!
Mate, if your going to spend that sort of money, get Mickey Thompson. Any 4X4 forum will confirm that.........you never hear about Pirelli in any sort of serious way........JMHO![]()

Re: Tyres Again!
Pirellis for motorbikes,... awesome,... for 4x4s... there are plenty better.

Re: Tyres Again!
i wouldn't spend that much money on a perilli for a 4x4..
I swear by the mickey thompson tyres, great tyres at reasonable prices... plus excellent mileage and good off road performance

Re: Tyres Again!
I am running the Pirelli Scorpion AT's. They are just over two years old now and have almost 80 000k on them. The tread is getting down now for offroad use but I found them sure footed and very quiet. I got mine at a steal for $185. They are 235 75r16's. I mainly used them for onroad and some beach and they have held up better than any other tyre I have used.

Re: Tyres Again!
Thanks Neil, I am sure your tyres fell off the back of a truck at that price.
Can't complain getting 80000 km out of them! I am currently running Dunlop Grandtreks. They would have to be the worst tyre ever made, very noisy, crap on road and off.I can't wait to get rid of them

Re: Tyres Again!
I now run mickie thompson AT'S and they are wearing extremely well, good on the road and what you would expect for an AT'S off the road.
I had Pirelli Scorpion ATR on my range rover and had one shed a case at 100km with a 20 foot boat on the back, made my mind up then and there that I would never have them again. They did a further 320km after that and were removed the next day for maxis, which had done 87,000 km when I sold the bus. There was never a determined fault as to why the Pirelli's failed but they were only 50% worn

Re: Tyres Again!
Hi Skipjack,
What 4b are they going on and what size are you looking for.
My last set were Kelly Safari's at around $185 (over 3 years ago) , I got 100,000ks out of them but couldn't resist trying Maxxis Bravo ATRs this time.
No one had said anything bad about them and at about $150 its worth a gamble.

Re: Tyres Again!
Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's are tops . Made in the USA - not some obscure Asian country.

Re: Tyres Again!
Hi
Mine are Baja ATZ's, I purchased 6 when I got mine and will be doing 10000km rotations, got to be a far better way of rotating tyres. Front to spares, rear to front, spares to rear, hope that makes sense.
cheers
