has anyone tried one of these on there power boat if so do they respond well doing 30 knots. is there other brands out there better . would you save much fuel in a two hour run to the reef plus the two hours back . at about $ 2300 maybe they will be worth it in fuel savings . your views greatly appreciated

Looked into getting one a while back, the big attraction was the price. After talking to a few people in the industry, the Navman even for the extra $ was a better option for my use. Had it for around 6 months now and am extremely happy with it's performance. It does keep a better course than I do, not sure how much that translates into fuel saving but it does make for a more relaxed trip. Have used it at 30kts but only in very flat conditions, don't like the idea of a second's delay if nasty wave pops up in front.

I like the idea, i dont have one but I wouldnt buy one to save fuel costs - doubt that payback period would be at all attractive on a small boat - cheers - Craig

I use it extensively for trolling, holds a great course in all sea conditions. If you have a strong side wind and chop it will be correcting the course every few seconds. There are all sorts of adjustements you can make as to how it keeps direction and how often it will make a course change to maintain heading. Best I can say is that I think it was money well spent.
