In Car GPS Navigator NAVTEQ B.V. / Tevion (Branded)
Hi All
Aldi has a Tevion Navigator on special tomorrow 10th April for $179 and I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on these units especially re the specs.
They have a 12 month warranty and with Aldi you can always take stuff back if its not working.
Uses navteq mapping and has an Atlas 3 cpu
Seems cheap but for mostly road work is it likely to be worth worrying about?

Thanks in advance
Cheers

The Agony of Aging
On the morning that daylight savings ended I stopped in to visit my aging friend.
He was busy covering his richard with black shoe polish.

Re: In Car GPS Navigator Tevion
Chimo, they look good at that price but I'd beware for one reason.
I just spent a week over Easter with a mate driving to Canberra and back and we borrowed his brothers Navman, late 2007 model, latest maps and we confused it a few times, none the least not actually getting to our Ridges Resort by the GPS, drove around Canberra for 20 minutes lost. I'd hate to think what a $180 GPS would have done
I learnt long ago, with the bigger ticket items, you only get what you pay for, so just think about it, might be better saving and putting a deposit on a better backed system.
The saving grace I guess is that they will take things back if you aren't happy. I have seen a few people get 'no questions' refunds at the local Aldi over the last year or so. They are good in that way, ethical in the highest IMHO.

Re: In Car GPS Navigator Tevion
I wouldn't buy a tevion anything.. 4 months ago I bought a dual tuner HDD recording box for the TV. Was a Tevion from Aldi for $189. the first box lasted about 1 week, returned to a different aldi due to stock nps. the second unit lasted 2 months, couldn't return to ALDI due to it being over 60 days so sent to distributer in Algester there cost. 1 week later they call and say we have 2 options. the unit is dead and they won't be getting any stock in until May! we can wait for this new model or get a single tuner and a dvd/hdd recorder box. We went with option 2 and had to send the dvd/hdd recorder back after 2 weeks!!!!! we have a replacment that has been running ok for about 3 weeks now but I'm not sure it will keep going. These devices seam to be running very hot, and I think this is the major reason they have been dying. Good Luck with it if you end up getting one!!
Cheers

Re: In Car GPS Navigator Tevion
Mate it looks identical to the Logic Gear GPS I bought from Officeworks. I have had it for over 12 months not a problem with it, works great. It was around $300 when I bought it.

Hi All
Thanks for your comments
On the basis of my own experience with Aldi, 12 v winch etc, the $s involved and 4*4 frogs thought;
" The saving grace I guess is that they will take things back if you aren't happy. I have seen a few people get 'no questions' refunds at the local Aldi over the last year or so. They are good in that way, ethical in the highest IMHO."
I'm going to give it a go if the stock isn't all gone when I get there.
If it works ok cool if it doesn't I'll get the $s back.
Thanks again

Re: In Car GPS Navigator NAVTEQ B.V. Tevion
Update
Charging in the 4wd in the garage and the thing found 8 satelites!
Never seen things run out the door of a store so fast!
Looks like it might be a good bit of gear,
NAVTEQ B.V. make it comes with 12v to 5 v lead plus USB cable for computer connection and charging etc plus a 70 page manual and its a Route 66 product from Holland made in the usual place!.
Cheers
Chimo
PS Did a run down to the Lismore area today and the gismo; now named "Alice" is brilliant. Even put us onto some of the back track shortcuts the locals use.![]()
