Any benifits in connecting sounder to gps
After reading a few threads on Furuno 620 and gps. i Connected my sounder to the gps. Now it displays latitude and longitute.
Are there any benifits in doing so, or it's just another pretty picture. Oh it did take me a whoe wopping 10 minutes to do.
Can someone explain the benifits.

if you have data transfer set up both ways, and your GPS is up to the task, you may be able to save depth information on waypoints.

.
Hamish is correct. Depth at marks can be very handy plus some fishfinders allow marks to be entered from the fishfinder controls. A vertical line then appears on the fishfinder screen showing the point on the bottom that has been marked. Important if you are marking very small pinnacles & you are slightly off with the mark.
You can then work out that the mark is slightly West, etc of the actual pinnacle.

I have the 620 connected to my gps as well. I believe that there can be a 2 way transfer of data on a mark ie depth to gps and mark to sounder.
I also find the NAV setting useful on the 620 as it keeps a small sounder display while underway but allows a great big depth, speed, heading, or whatever you care to customize on the screen, whilst freeing up the whole gps screen for navigation. I love the feature and wouldnt be without that connection. Maybe its just me.
