    Hilux 2.7 99 SR5

    Guys,

I am looking at a 99 SR5 Hilux d/cab 2.7l. It has 170k on the clock, has been serviced regularly and is in great cond. I would be using it to tow a tinny about 650kg all up every now and again.

Does any one have one? Are there any common faults to look out for?

    thanks,

    Charlie

Dude go for it but offer them about $3000-$5000 less than what they are asking then negotiate from there.

    Cheers Rod....

    It's probably be a gas guzzler,despite being a 4 cylinder.

$14,500 is too much to pay

Ring an insurance company and get a quote. Find out what they will give you if its written off or stolen.
They will probably say about $ 10,000 max. There is no point spending $14,500 on a vehicle if an insurance company will only market value ( probably $10,000 ) if its written off 2 weeks later.

I'm speechless.. An 8 year old 4 cylinder SR5 with 170,000 clicks on the clock -worth $18900.

Vehicles that average 25,000 clicks a year normally depreciate at 25% per annum that means that old toyota has a wholesale value of about $ 8000 or 9000 .

Which means if you want to sell it after 2 years,a dealer will only pay market value of $6000,despite it being insured for 3 times that amount.

If you want my opinion, I would not pay one cent more than $10,000

Toyota do seem to hold value quite well over the years.
That is a fair amount of kays for a petrol.
I have the diesel 2000 model (not sr5, just standard) It gets
serviced regularly and has never needed any other repairs.

As suggested above, I would offer lower and negotiate.

170 km isn't a lot on a toyota petrol that's been looked after.

The 2.7 isn't cheap on fuel but has o.k. performance.

My 5 y.o. (used for business with 180 km on the clock)petrol 'lux still has an agreed value of $30k

There is not much to go wrong on these unless you start modding. Front diff is a weak point only if you up the tyre size past 31" and start bouncing up hills with the boot into it. I haven't blown one yet though running 33's and a front auto locker.

Maintain it properly and it will last.

Most on our site vehicle are the 2.7 4x4. I admit they have a hard life but they guzzle fuel like no tomorrow and have little power to show for it, no bottom, a little mid range, and no top end.
I'm looking for a second hand ute atm, run to work, rubbish to the dump that sort of thing but I'd stick to the 3ltr diesel. At least the fuel economy is better
