Would this setup for knots be ok - 50lb flurocarbon
I am having some trouble with the 50lb flurocarbon leader I have as its quite thick, on top of that it turns out my cousin did the wrong knot for braided line so I need to start over.
Ive done some research and wanted to confirm if this was okay:
20lb Braided line using palomar knot to swivel
50lb flurocarbon inbetween swivel and hook both using Centuri knot??

I am already regretting getting this leader, I was recomended it but I cant tie any knots with it, I tried a Clinch, Grincher and Palomar and theres always big gaps between the loops.

Hi ItsHectic, can I ask what you are fishing for? What style of fishing?
I tie my braid directly to my flurocarbon leader, no swivel. For trolling I would use a swivel, but then I would be trolling with mono normally, not braid.

wow, 50lb leader for bream and leather jacket....a bit overkill I think. I use a lot of heavier leaders, up to 120lb, and the double uni works well for be from braid ( as small as 30lb to 120lb leader) to leader, and a single uni for tieing on terminal tackle, never had a failure in the knots and it probably the easiest knot to tie.

Sounds heavy, Bimini twist to Allbright.
I have tied the Bimini twist to Allbright with 30lbs main and 40lbs leader with no dramas.
Are you really lubricating the knot before you tighten it?

Yea I am spitting on it before i tighten it, but the problem is it wont easily bend tight enough so theres big gaps.
I will see how I go right now with a single uni to the terminal tackle.

The uni knot seems to be the best I can do so far, its not snug but has the smallest gaps of all the knots I have tried. Looked at the Bimini but a double uni is a lot more apealing to me.![]()

Climax Haruna Seamaster is the brand of fluoro.

a bit of loctite over the knot will solve your dramas as well. Only a little is needed so a small bottle goes a very long way, and it retains close to 100% line strength in the knot.

Personally, I reckon 50lb flurocarbon is a waste of time.
You've found out the hard way. It's very hard to tie knots in because of it's stiffness.
If you want to use 50 lb leader, I use Penn 10X, good stuff, nice and supple, easy to join braid main line to leader.
I reckon flurocarbon leader is more suited to lighter line sizes, leader up to 20lb, then I'd go with mono. Schnieder or Penn 10X.
Cheers Jeff..

But if he is fishing for kings you are going to need the abrasion resistance of a good FC, do you get the same from a Mono?

I got some 16lb mono leader.
I will give this stuff a tester with some superglue otherwise I will go with some different FC.

Once the outer coating of fluro has been compromised such as a nick or cut it's as good as useless.
Heavy monos like Damyl, Schnieder,Black Magic, Penn 10X are the way to go if wanting a 50, 80lb or heavier leader. Much tougher than flurocarbon. Heaps cheaper too.
What were they using before the flurocarbon craze?????
Mono, then jinkai, now it's flurocarbon.
Jeff.
