    Amity Point Weekend Camping

Hi all, I'm going to Amity Point for Australia Day weekend with my Mum will any of you Ausfishers be there?

I'm thinking of getting few blocks of Pillies and Garfish then get a few bags of Prawns.

Will there be Mackeral, Tuna and Kingfish there at this time of year and what bait will they all take best? I'll also be taking the cast net so can you please tell me where the best place to get live bait near Amity Point. What other species will be hanging around there?

    Cheers Tom

P.S. I'm new to Amity Point, Doesn't it look brilliant i can't wait! Does anyone know about this catch of the Tuna?

Been going to Straddie for the last 18years, have seen plenty of schools of speedsters close to Amity Pt,mainly out of casting distance though. Although I would not be supprised of anything being caught off the Amity Jetty or Rock wall.
Herd of thumper YTK stalking bait fish around the jetty.
Catch livies around the pylons with bait jigs

As Capt said, you will see plenty of action out in the channel. That area holds an awesome variety of fish and you would have to be pretty unlucky to not come away with a keeper of some sort on every session. I heard theres been some thumper bream caught off the rock wall in the last few weeks.

Cast your net off the jetty or the rock wall and you should find plenty of livies. Fish off the wall or the jettie just on dark or first light for guaranteed action. The entrance to the basin down the end of the caravan park also produces some nice flatties and whiting.

I wouldn't buy frozen bait, go see the local pro fisherman in the backstreets of amity and get yourself some fresh mullet, prawns and whatever else they have that looks good. Heaps better than frozen and probably cheaper.

Just spent two weeks at Amity Bungalows-That is where that tuna was caught. If you go on their website you can read up on it.From what I found out when I was there Tuna come through March,April and the Mackeral ,Cobia about now.
When I was there I got on to some nice Squire(the ones that escaped the dolphins!!!) and Estuary Cod.There is also decent Moses Perch,Bream,Blubberlip Bream,Sweetlip and Mangrove Jack around.
Best baits are fresh squid, mullet and garfish.

Mainly hardiheads and pike, but who knows. That place will dish up all sorts.

big col at the bungalows reckons big bait = big fish at amity, little col caught that tuna at the bungalows but the place fishes the same down near the jetty. good luck.
